Col, why should I be mardy, when I'm always nearer 'the mark' than you.

Now you're just sounding arrogant...

Regarding Wellens... I do, and always have thought it a shame that the 'player of the season' a couple of years ago could be so roundly set upon and slated for having not his best season during the last campaign. Who did? It was a shitty season for all manner of reasons.

Now I notice Wellens is looking forward to going to Ipswich to try to get fit. Good on him. Thats exactly the right attitude.

You've always had a dislike of Wellns and have been one of his biggest critics..your views on him are regurgitated time and time again. I dont agree with you. Get over it.

I respect your opinions, but you seem to be criticising Wellens for not playing like Andy King! There have been numerous games in the past where he has ran the show. Wellens spreads the play to get the full backs and wingers into the game. If City play narrow, the other team simply clogs the middle. A lot of times when Wellens gets the ball he has to bring it under control while an opponent is snapping at his heels. He does well to control it and pass it to the side. He has suffered because other teams realised that not giving Wellens any time on the ball was the key to stifling City.

I realise Wellens is getting slower and will not get back into the current team, but he doesn't deserve the venom he gets on this forum. People should recall the likes of Andy Johnson Steven Clemence, and Gareth Williams. Unlike Williams, Wellens always shows for the ball even when he is having a bad game.

Spot on...given the new formation, Wellens would have this time and could do more with the ball.

I'm not saying start him over Knocky, of course not.. but its a squad game and Wellens could still be an important part of this squad. I hope he gets fit at Ipswich.

This is still very much a work in progress, NFP seems reluctant to fully embrace a more progressive system.

Watching the full game on FP it was clear that we were, more or less, playing 4-4-2 with Knockaert lining up on the right but with licence to roam, Nugent, Vardy and Moore all fill the right midfield spot at various times when Knockaert was elsewhere and against a very modest Huddersfield it worked well enough.

We still are some way from getting our setup right, hopefully it will come in time......

I had been told that by a reliable friend, that at Huddersfield it was more of a 4-4-2 system than was apparent in the last two home matches. However, the fluidity of whichever set up is the key, with Vardy often being used to cover on the right. You cannot be faulted with your appraisal that this is still a work in progress. The theory being that we will improve and develop into a team that will become more successful as the season progresses.

No, I simply think Wellens is better than you do... and your attempts to smear the fella at every opportunity fall on deaf ears, in my case. Wellens remains one of Pearson's best signings IMO.

Of course he is, Col. One poor season last year, when most (if not all) of our players were poor/below average but that is it. He has generally been solid for us and is one of Pearson's best signings, no doubt.

Sadly his legs are going now, but his ability to pick out a pass, change the pace of the game and hold the ball is still good.

That's fine Col, but I think Pearson is improving with his choice of acquisitions, Morgan, Drinkwater, James, Marshall, Vardy and Knockaert are all immeasurably better signings than Wellens ever was.

And you say that, after what? 9 games? Just be patient and lets see if you're right. Of course I hope you are, but thats a big shout so soon in.

i thought Wellens, for example, was pretty much the stand-out player during Pearson's first spell. Mr. Consistency if you like and this very nearly ended in a play-off final.

Marshall, for example, has been very average so far this season. I think he has the potential, but this campaign has been quite disappointing, relative to expectation.

We're all fans of City. Just because Richie didnt flourish in a poor City side last season, i'm not gonna lambast him. You do so if it makes you feel better.

I respect Wellens for what he has done at Leicester, a couple of years ago he was our only effective creative player (never rated Gallagher), if he had come to us a couple of years earlier in his career he could have become a Leicester legend.

He's a good replacement to have in the squad, and a good influence on our young midfelders. He has become a scapegoat, its unjustified, and I wish him all the best at Ipswich.

Vardy a definite no to start off with. Lets see if he ends up playing as many games as Richie has for us. Drinky, James and Knocks have done nothing yet despite starting well. Morgan is the only player you named who can possibly justify your statement, let's see if he gets player of the year this year.

So you'd be starting Wellens tomorow if he hadnt gone to Ipswich then?

We won the game versus Huddersfield with his two goals?

I just don't see why the Wellens thing needs debate.

He used to be good, he's now too old and isn't.

But he was never 'good', that's the problem.

Some people either think he is good or have been told he is good and therefore believe that he can be 'good' again.

I think they are totally wrong......

Yeah I think we kinda get that now Dave. You don't like Wellens.

Wellens isn't good enough any more. Hence why he's joined Ipswich who lets be honest are an average Championship side.

Drinkwater has been outstanding, Vardy has scored 4 created plenty and runs his socks off and to say Knockoert has done nothing when he is head and shoulders above anyone and has scored probably the best goal in our entire history is just astounding mate.

Wellens joined Ipswich because Pearson didn't want to loan him to a promotion challenger!

Sort of backs up my point that they're an average Championship side

I think Wellens deserves some respect for what he has done for us. When has he ever given less than his best . His time may have gone now and I wish him all the best

Good move to be honest. Hope he gets the chance to throw a spanner in the works when playing against any promotion contenders. Who will he play against for Ipswich? Assuming he gets picked.

Posted

Good luck to him. He was committed and gave us the best performances he could. Whether you think he's good enough now or not I don't see how you can have some of the strong feelings some posters on here have towards him.

I doubt Wellens will make it back into our team from now on to be honest.

We might see the odd cameo such as Oakley gave in his last few months but that's it. I'd rather he got a permanent move though, and goes on to enjoy the rest of his career somewhere else.

People forget that at one time he was pretty much the first name on the team-sheet.

I too think he deserves more respect than he gets.
