breadandcheese Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Well I'm sure if the boot was on the foot and Welford Rd. was being proposed for a Footy World Cup game at the expense of the KP this forum and other LCFC ones would be in melt down. Surely the pitch meets the Rules of Rugby requirements that being the case it sounds like an excuse, it's the norm these days for those 'in charge' of organisations be they political, business, sporting, social to bow to the power of the ££££ at the expense of those at the bottom that actively support and are paramount to their existence in the first place. Those people running Rugby would do well to show some humility and recognise the fact that without the grass root fans they and their positions wouldn't exist and they'd have to find another gravy train to live off. As a football and LCFC fan I wholeheartedly support the Tigers complaint. Couldn't agree more with you. I did read somewhere that the King Power was preferred because it has better corporate and media facilities than Welford Road. Either way, it's pretty poor and makes it more likely that there will be loads of empty seats for the games involving weaker national sides.
Jimmy Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 their pitch is something like 3m too short for international Rugby regulations, the size isn't an issue for domestic rugby however, much like how last season Stoke had to enlarge their pitch for the Europa league, different competition = different standards

Long story short the RFU don't want to eat into profits to enlarge domestic stadia, which don't even sell out as things are, Tigers themselves rarely sell out, when they can just hire football stadia that have better corporate and media facilities as well as being bigger as well
PAULCFC Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 I feel sorry for the fans in all of this....if i was going to a world cup(football) in say spain and my team were playing in Barcelona i'd expect to play in the Nou Camp...not Espanyol......bad analogy i know! But surely rugby fans who would have come a fair way would sooner watch a match in a world renowned rugby ground....as someone has allready said it's allabout the money!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 May 2013 Posted 2 May 2013 Isn't this basically the RFU admitting that the rugby infrastructure in this country is crap?
BHAFC Braders Posted 2 May 2013 Posted 2 May 2013 Argentina vs Tongo , Argentina vs Afrrica 1 at the KP http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/mm/Document/Tournament/Mediazone/02/06/65/07/rwc-2015-match-schedule.pdf

Haydos Posted 2 May 2013 Posted 2 May 2013 Argentina vs Tongo , Argentina vs Afrrica 1 at the KP http://www.rugbyworl...ch-schedule.pdf Nice, pretty good games, might have to try and get tickets to one, Argentina are great to watch.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 2 May 2013 Posted 2 May 2013 Also got Americas 1 vs Europe 2 by the looks of it.
Guest MattP Posted 2 May 2013 Posted 2 May 2013 Probably go if the Argies are on, enjoy watching their brand of rugby. Still appalling that they have had to ride on the back of football to host this though.
isaidno Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Anyone applied for tickets ? , I've applied for Argentina vs Namibia at the King Power. Argentina vs Tonga is £50 for the cheapest seats
filbertway Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 The only reason I wouldn't like this would be unnecessary wear and tear to the pitch if the attendance could have fit in Welford Road.
isaidno Posted 28 November 2014 Posted 28 November 2014 The cheapest tickets for the Argentina vs Tonga game are £115 . I got tickets for the Argentina vs Namibia game in the ballot for £20
Strokes Posted 28 November 2014 Posted 28 November 2014 Nah you're alright, I'd go at a reasonable rate but fúck that.
