Soar Fox Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 Me and the Missus are looking to go away for a couple of weeks on or after Boxing Day. We've discussed a few places Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica. Has anyone got any recommendations on where or not to go.

Zingari Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 i'm just one of those common plebs that will be heading off on an all inclusive to one of the Canary Islands for a few weeks. i like it though
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 I'd love to afford anywhere this year. Woe is me
martyn Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 Canaries if you don't want to spend the earth. I'm spending New Year in Cancun as having 2nd wedding in Mexico City in January so naturally biased towards Mexico. I would recommend that you get out and about else you may as well go for the cheaper options closer to home. Would love to go to Los Cabos or Baja California Sur as well, not sure what December/January weather is like though.
Jon the Hat Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 Father in law lives in Bali. Might head over at some point.

Monk Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Costa Rica is a fantastic country to visit. Loads to see and do, fairly cheap and great weather.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Slightly off topic but just got back from Cyprus last week the bars were only charging 1.70 Euros for a pint of the local Keo beer really cheap over there at the moment!

We went Cyprus in the summer and stayed in Protoras and we love it. It's the 3rd time I've been in 4 years.

Stayed in Penera just 20 mins walk along the coastal walkway from Protaras, 3rd time for me as well, got married there a few years back, much prefer it to Paphos.

We stayed in Penera in 2009 at a place called windmills. Not the nicest of places but it was good enough for what we needed. We actually walked back into Penera and had a couple of drinks in an Irish place called Bennigans it was only €2 for a bottle of peroni.

Yes I know them, did not go into Bennigans looked at the menu thought it was expensive compared to the other places, went to Knights pub but mostly went into Protaras at night and drank in Cheers love it in there. Great holiday destination and once your there pretty cheap!
Robsdee Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Going to Cape Town on 12th January. Very hot, wonderful beaches and lots to do. Flights are expensive, but I use airmiles

Cashed in some air miles and ended up there for a week recently at Capo Bay Hotel in Protaras. Made for a really nice and really cheap break at a good hotel. If you want culture it's not for you, but if you want 'home from home' and affordable ..... can't go wrong.

Went to the capo bay hotel for a couple of drinks as we had friends staying there. Lovely hotel sat outside in the Koi bar. Definitely recommend Cyprus for a holiday.
RobHawk Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Might as well answer ya..... Bali.... Paradise on earth. South Africa is also amazing. Cannot agree with this enough! (we've been agreeing alot today Col!) Went then on honeymoon a few years ago and loved it! hoping to go back soon! The people are really nice too!
LanguedocFox Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Will I be guaranteed the weather?? Yes: it'll be cold, probably wet, and - if you play your cards right - foggy as well.

Definitely recommend Cyprus for a holiday. It was my new partner's birthday and we spend the evening down at that bar on the waterfront sipping Margarita's. Very nice. They did the basics well -like putting champagne in the room for her whilst we were out in the day. How pissed ??!!! Jeez - I sound like I'm on their marketing team !!!
