jonthefox Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Crashing tonight , 9pm on c4. Time to check in. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-plane-crash/articles/online-check-in
Saxondale Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Been looking forward to this for quite a long time.
jonthefox Posted 11 October 2012 Author Posted 11 October 2012 I'm right at the front ...business class.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 From the advert looks like they're crashing it into a desert. Should have done it into the sea really given that water covers over 70% of the earth's surface and desert less than 10%

z-layrex Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 I'm in 32E. On a night shift tonight though so will have to 4od it tomorrow.
Saxondale Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 From the advert looks like they're crashing it into a desert. Should have done it into the sea really given that water covers over 70% of the earth's surface and desert less than 10% a) They'd have difficulty recovering the wreckage b) At the speeds involved, crashing into the sea is pretty much the same as hitting hard ground
Guest BlueBrett Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Makes it harder to film the wreckage though. Suppose so. To be honest even if you survived the crash you'd be equally screwed whether stranded in the water or the middle of a desert so I guess it doesn't matter really.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 b) At the speeds involved, crashing into the sea is pretty much the same as hitting hard ground Is it? I'd have thought if it was a calm sea you might get a sort of skimming effect like when you throw a flat stone
Zingari Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Suppose so. To be honest even if you survived the crash you'd be equally screwed whether stranded in the water or the middle of a desert so I guess it doesn't matter really. you've obviously not seen the film "flight of the phoenix"
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 I'm right at the front ...business class. Can I be a steward?, I`v always wanted to be a steward.
Rincewind Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Don't know anything about this. Don't have Ch 4 on much. Just followed the link. I'm seat 17A. Not far from the emergency exit halfway down. If the plane splits in two I'll just jump from the gap.
StanSP Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Is it? I'd have thought if it was a calm sea you might get a sort of skimming effect like when you throw a flat stone No guarantee it'd be a calm sea (especially in the middle of it). And also no guarantee the plane will be flat like a skimming-stone as it approaches the surface.
Libertine Dream Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Been looking forward to this since it was announced. Hopefully a great piece of documentary work.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Is it? I'd have thought if it was a calm sea you might get a sort of skimming effect like when you throw a flat stone A lot of planes, particularly Boeing-built ones, have engines hanging below the wing and fuselage. This creates drag which can tear the plane apart at sea.
Saxondale Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Is it? I'd have thought if it was a calm sea you might get a sort of skimming effect like when you throw a flat stone If you so a Sullenberger, ie a gentle crash landing, then maybe. Otherwise, this happens (bearing in mind this is quite gentle and controlled):
Libertine Dream Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Is it? I'd have thought if it was a calm sea you might get a sort of skimming effect like when you throw a flat stone You'd either get the plane cartwheeling and breaking up, just a large amount of the plane breaking up, a pretty decent landing (Hudson River) or an explosion/fire of some sort. Why would it skim? The Hudson River Landing didn't cause a skimming effect
BoneDog Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Never heard of this, sounds alright so I might have to watch.
marko Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 I went for 29D. I reckon the fuselage will break just behind the wing and the rear landing gear taking some of the impact - well that's my rationale for choosing that seat.
Zingari Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 can't they fly it into the top section of a massive steel framed building and see what happens ?
Guest MattP Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Didn't they run this show in Afghanistan in 2001? can't they fly it into the top section of a massive steel framed building and see what happens ? Fcuk sake literally at the same time
jonthefox Posted 11 October 2012 Author Posted 11 October 2012 Can I be a steward?, I`v always wanted to be a steward. Are you in your mid 30's and covered in slap?.
