AoWW Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 Really enjoyed it. Craig runs really weird though which is a little off putting. Admittedly, it wasn't his running technique I was checking out.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 Not seen it yet but I'll have a look when I do, I wonder if he's a heel striker, mid-foot or fore-foot runner?? By god if i wasnt excited about this before, I am now!!
Fox92 Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 Craig runs really weird though which is a little off putting. I thought that. It's like he is overemphasizing when trying to catch up to the tube train.
flowwolf Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 Do the words fiction and child like fantasy mean anything ?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 Do the words fiction and child like fantasy mean anything ? Yes. Do the words stop being and so serious mean anything?
MC Prussian Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 For all the hype surrounding it, the latest installment in the Bond series left me rather emotionless. I really enjoyed the tension they built up in the first 60 minutes, only to be let down by the development in the second half. He-who-everyone-is-afraid-of remains rather flat, is of little menace. He could've been so much more intimidating. Same goes for the Bond girls. What remains are superb and beautifully shot scenes, great composition and a great first half. Other than that, I felt really let down by a lack of plot and self-mockery, too much obvious product placement and it's also too long at 140+ minutes running time. Yeah, Bond has an odd running technique. And a real shame about THAT car in the end...
AoWW Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 Must admit, the most emotion I felt during the whole film was when the car got trashed. Other than that I found it an enjoyable way to spend and afternoon and felt it was, on balance, one of the better Bond films I've seen. I agree, it was beautifully shot, and Daniel Craig looks kinda tempting in the shower scene.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 November 2012 Author Posted 2 November 2012 Im off to watch it tonight. Hope its nothing like the crap ones under Brosnan

I quite enjoyed the plot as it was a break from the typical megalomaniac intent on world power. As for the product placement; I guess it's a sign of the times, but it will raise some valuable revenue for production and promotion.

Might be just me, but the product placement makes it feel a bit more realistic.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 One thing I really need to point out about this film... Bond's job was to keep M alive - that was the whole mission objective - he failed. In the interim, lots of agents get killed who wouldn't have got killed had Silva/Rodriguez already killed M. They should have just given her to him in the first place and saved a lot of lives. I hope you're happy with yourself James!

I just don't know - the old Bond movies up to ca. 1994 always had that element of fear looming in the back of your head thanks to the political situations and the war zones/war dangers. Nowadays, with less and less obvious national threats, something's gone amiss. And writers also seem to have more difficulty in creating an intimidating, yet likeable villain. I also found the motive behind "his" actions in "Skyfall" rather mundane. You could've saved so much running time by getting to the point earlier on. At 140+ minutes, it feels quite a drag at times. Ralph Fiennes is class, though. As always.
Danno Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 One of the best films I've seen for a whole. Didn't get the bit where the villain takes his teeth out?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Wow. A very VERY good film. Andy yes, he does run weird! Really wide width between his feet, especially on the ice, although, to be fair, he is on ice! Brilliant movie though.
MC Prussian Posted 3 November 2012 Posted 3 November 2012 One of the best films I've seen for a whole. Didn't get the bit where the villain takes his teeth out? Bit on a capsule of cyanide to commit suicide. Didn't kill him, but the toxic vapours burnt through parts of his mouth and tissue.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 3 November 2012 Posted 3 November 2012 Going on Sunday looking forward to it.
Danno Posted 3 November 2012 Posted 3 November 2012 Bit on a capsule of cyanide to commit suicide. Didn't kill him, but the toxic vapours burnt through parts of his mouth and tissue. Cheers mate my keys slid out my pocket during that bit so I missed it.
MC Prussian Posted 4 November 2012 Posted 4 November 2012 You know, thinking about it, there's just a couple of things that don't add up: Why waste so much time on the opening sequence in Istanbul? Why not starting it with the fight on the train, with Bond getting shot? Or with him getting smashed on a daily basis at the beach outfit? In hindsight, the whole chase seems pretty much pointless and a waste of screening time, adding to the dull overall feel of the film. Why does Kincade not speak with a proper Scottish accent? He seems to be American. Not really realistic. Why does Silva or any of his cronies not detect Bond's transmitter when they bring him to the abandoned island? You'd think that with all the danger and air of sophistication surrounding Silva, he'd be smart enough to fleece Bond first. Why does the flashlight appear to be so strong on screen? When you point a flashlight away from the estate, it shouldn't be visible at all or only hardly.

In response: If it had started on the train you would hae been here saying "why did it start on the train? Why didn't they show how they got there" I can't say I noticed the accent thing, I think you're being pernickety It states, in the film, that Silva wanted to get caught. It was all part of his plan. Hence he didn't check for something as obvious as a transmitter. As recently as October I was using a pretty standard flashlight that shined into the sky like the bat symbol. I know this because, being the immature character I am, I shined it into the sky like I was trying to summon the caped crusader. The flashlight bit was easily feasible
