Thracian Posted 26 October 2012 Posted 26 October 2012 Anyone seen it today yet? Thoughts? My youngest attended a special showing at Leicester Square (Two Bond films had scenes filmed at the restaurant where he works) and he reckons it's brilliant.
StanSP Posted 26 October 2012 Posted 26 October 2012 Meh. I saw Felix Baumgartner do it the other week. Don't fancy watching another one.
marko Posted 26 October 2012 Posted 26 October 2012 Went to see it at Imax earlier and thoroughly enjoyed it. Craig, Bardem and Dench were all on top form.
Webbo Posted 28 October 2012 Posted 28 October 2012 What a good film. Not quite wow! but still really good.
Kitchandro Posted 29 October 2012 Posted 29 October 2012 Decent. Reasonably entertaining but nowhere near the best Bond film ever. To be honest I'm just not into these new Daniel Craig James Bonds, they're just run of the mill action films these days. Having said that I thought Casino Royale was brilliant, but it was obvious that they needed to go back to classic Bond after that. For me, there's not enough screen time for the fit Bond girl and too much emphasis on M (I'm not sure why we're supposed to care about her character, she's amusing but she's never been very likeable). The gags are all a bit too childish these days as well, not enough innuendos, too much trying to make us laugh at nerds, it reminded me too much of Harry Potter. I still think they nailed James Bond when Pierce Brosnan was in them, it was fun, the dialogue flowed, most of the jokes hit, the girls and Villains kept you entertained (because, after all, we can usually guess what Bonds fate is going to be, so it's more about them IMO) they stuck to classic Bond and the things that made it unique and entertaining and yet the main bulk of it was still serious, and the actions scenes were as good as they are now. I did like Javier Bardem in this though, I don't think many actors can do villain like him these days. I think most people who see it will really like it.
z-layrex Posted 29 October 2012 Posted 29 October 2012 I don't really like Craig as a Bond, but I thought Skyfall was great.

The Bond portrayed in the Brosnan films was as far from the Ian Fleming novel version of Bond as you could get. In his novels Bond was a much darker character and there were no outrageous gadgets; case in point Die Another Day in particular. The latest Craig portrayals of Bond have been much grittier, darker and with more suspense, in keeping with the way Fleming wrote him.

flowwolf Posted 29 October 2012 Posted 29 October 2012 Message to all James Bond fans --Fvcking well grow up.

Ok but I don't really care about the novels because I haven't read them, I'm just talking about the films and their entertainment value. I don't find the Daniel Craig Bond style as entertaining, personally. That's not to say I was bored out my skull or that I didn't think it was a good film.

I watched this and thought "THEY'VE REMEMBERED IT'S A BOND FILM, YES!", along with "Thank god it's not post-Goldeneye-Brosnan/Quantum of Solace". This is from someone who grew up in the Bronhom era

But surely a film based on character from a series of novels should actually portray the character as he was written, or close to it with a few alterations? I personally felt the Brosnan era went too far towards all out action and gimmicks. But, as they say, each to their own.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 Anybody see the Top Gear special last night? Hammond went through a list of classic Bond cars and recreated the Lotus submarine car and the "invisible" Aston. Was pretty good.

I did like Javier Bardem in this though, I don't think many actors can do villain like him these days. I think most people who see it will really like it. I agree with your first part here. Don't you think that they have set it up for a return of the old format? With Moneypenny, Q and M being in his old office suggests to me a return to a similar style circa Connery. I thought this film was excellent. It is more of an action film, but all of the Craig films have been. They needed a facelift after the car crash that was Die another Day. They are more similar to the books (from the two i have read) and the bourne films that everyone raved about. Bardem was superb, I thought his performance was captivating. I didn't really care about M but thought the story line was good and different from the usual world domination narratives of old. I'm sure he was made to look older, but I wonder how more films he has left in him. On a side note, had a weird phone call with my Granny telling me how good looking Daniel Craig is and how much of a nice body he has - from what she has seen. Cringe.
Bettsj2 Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 Really enjoyed it. Craig runs really weird though which is a little off putting.
StanSP Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 Anybody see the Top Gear special last night? Hammond went through a list of classic Bond cars and recreated the Lotus submarine car and the "invisible" Aston. Was pretty good. Yeah I watched it. Totally forgot about some of the cars he drove. I wish I could drive some of those . Learnt a lot about the stunts they did throughout all the films which I found interesting. Really enjoyed it. Craig runs really weird though which is a little off putting. Weirder than Nugent's run ?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 Yeah that "corkscrew" twist over the river, that was quality, and the anecdotes behind it too!
StanSP Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 Yep that's the one! Incredible how they achieved it.
Fox92 Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 Just been to cinema to watch Skyfall... Thought it was the best Bond movie for ages (certainly think it's the best Bond movie Daniel Craig has been in). They have re-introduced everything including Moneypenny and little jokes (because older Bond's were more easier and funnier in my opinion). The only thing I didn't like was the smashing up of the DB5
purpleronnie Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 I can't stand bond movies, but I have to admit this one does look good.
