If it had started on the train you would hae been here saying "why did it start on the train? Why didn't they show how they got there" :P

I can't say I noticed the accent thing, I think you're being pernickety

It states, in the film, that Silva wanted to get caught. It was all part of his plan. Hence he didn't check for something as obvious as a transmitter.

As recently as October I was using a pretty standard flashlight that shined into the sky like the bat symbol. I know this because, being the immature character I am, I shined it into the sky like I was trying to summon the caped crusader. The flashlight bit was easily feasible

Agree with all kokopops says, especially about Kincade, who was played by Albert Finney, who is as English as they come.

Thanks for the info. Just a few additional thoughts:

- I still think the beginning in Istanbul is overly long and pretty much pointless. You're looking at saving 10, 15 minutes and a much tighter script. Personally, I'm all game for "get in late, leave early". ;) Just watched Terminator again yesterday and damn, that movie's really pacey (without neglecting the suspense part at all).

But obviously, in order to justify the bigger budget and to give the Bond fans some more action scenes, it had to be done accordingly in "Skyfall".

- Albert Finney does sound neither English nor Scottish in the movie. But that's how I perceived it.

- Silva did want to get caught, yes. I was only wondering why going to all these lengths and playing mind games when he could've just handed himself in after the first explosion at the Intelligence Agency. lol

I guess I wanted the Silva character to have more depth and show more of his ruthless side in this part in particular. Besides, since he knew he'd be caught how could he know he'd end up in a cell in the makeshift MI:6 office that is - surprise - next to the Tube?

- The flashlight towards the end: Well, it doesn't seem to be that powerful when they show Finney and Dench from the front, trying to escape. But hey, I guess I'm overly nitpicky here.

I'll stick this in a spoiler, though if you haven't watched the film you shouldn't be stupid enough to read this thread!

The question I have is where in the order of Bonds does/should this film fit?

What I can't understand is that the film that first introduces Moneypenny is the same film where M dies?!

Am I overlooking something simple?

M was a man in the originals, and that character is always called M.

My turn!

Kincade's lack of appropriate accent only occurred to me when he says "welcome to Scotland!" with strong Scot tones - until that point I'd thought he was supposed to sound English...

Speaking of that line - the lack of quality in the one-liners disappointed me.

The whole tube train falling on Bond scene really took the biscuit when it comes to suspending disbelief. Even though I'm watching a Bond film, it's a bit much that Silva somehow knew that Bond would catch up to him at that point, exactly as a (empty) tube train is on its way. Why would he plant an explosive in a place that requires ridiculously many degrees of coincidence for his plan to work?

How many times have you seen a spare tube operator chilling in the rear driver's cab?

Why didn't they focus more on the technological marvel of a Land Rover which they gave Moneypenny? If I was Q and made a car that could catch up to a train, then overtake it by taking the long route around a point where said train cuts straight through the hillside, I'd want a bit more recognition for it...

Congrats on the inclusion of Komodo dragons, a nice little nod to the old films with their exotic nasties. I would have liked them to be more prominent, or at least explained. It was only after a google that I was convinced that a) they were Komodos; we had a lot of discussion over wtf they were on the way out, mainly over b) they have actually been known to eat people on occasion.

HOW THE FVCK DOES HE GET OUT OF THE ICE LAKE? Massive cop-out.

Overall I was disappointed by the film's over reliance on making a big splash instead of telling the actual story. That said it's still an enjoyable watch, I'm just not sure I'll be watching it again any time soon.

Also, is it just me or has Bond lost his suave charm? I loved the kitsch cheekiness in the character's eyes when delivering one-liners or seducing a woman in the older films, now he's a broody, scowling mother. It's like he's reading FT after a defeat.

If you are a fan of the cheesy bond shite then you won't like it. But for me it could work easily as a stand alone film without the bond tag, and a very good film at that. The old bonds look incredibly dated to me, and would appeal to a much smaller audience than these ones.

Yes there were a few moments in it I wasn't sure about, but in how many films aren't there things like that? When the biggest gripes are flash torch realism and one missing scottish accent I'm not sure the film has many problems.

I thought it was great and haven't enjoyed many films more than that at the cinema for quite some time.

I get that part but the same woman who plays M is in a number of other films with Moneypenny even though she apparently dies in the first film where Moneypenny is introduced?!

Disappointed. Felt a bit flimsy on story-line. Always enjoyable going to the Cinema and Bond is a guilty pleasure, but not a patch on Cas Roy for me.

Loved it. Not a fan of Craig but easily his best. Lot less gadgets than previous Bonds. Bardem was superb & very camp like the old Bond villains. Did feel a little pedestrian at times but on the whole very good
