Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 I have always loved Dads Army and was mildly put out when I read there has been an idea of a new film, especially when I read Captain Mainwaring could be played by a woman! Miranda Hart and Prunella Scales are two names that were mentioned. This did get me thinking though of who could play the roles of the platoon, I reckon Stephen Fry would make a great Sgt Wilson and Phil Daniels Private Walker the spiv. So any other ideas of who else could fit well into the roles?
Zingari Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 i really can't see anyone else playing the roles . I hope they drop the idea. Arthur Lowe , John Laurie , Clive Dunn John LeMesurier etc just seemed so right and I think it would be a big mistake to try to recapture the magic they created .
ithuriel Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 Miranda Hart :xmasblink: Not for me, prefer the original no matter how dated it may become.
21st Century Fox Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 Bollocks, it won't happen. Just like the proposed Laurel & Hardy film years ago with John Goodman and Rowan Atkinson and the rebooted Carry On films with Barry from Eastenders and Britney Spears.
Captain... Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 Why would they do that? Why wouldn't they just make something similar about the role women played during the war, which was very important, and let it stand on it's own two feet rather than try and piggy back off the success of a classic which would give it a ridiculously high standard to reach, and risk pissing over a much loved treasure. Reference it, homage it, but don't set yourself up for failure by trying to repeat it. When will they learn?
Rincewind Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 Did they have women in the Home Guard? Especially officers? Maybe the Air Wardens but the Home Guard were there for if Hitler got through and did recruit men that were over the age limit or having a medical condition. The most women would do I expect would be to serve the tea. Maybe they could do something around the theme of a group of women setting up their own Home guard to rival the towns men but write a completely different story not copy what has already been done well because they would be hard pressed to equal it.

Tielemans63 Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 Some things are best left as others have said. As for Miranda Hart - a kick in the balls would be funnier than anything she's ever done.
