His little lad is brilliant bless him

Was saying how nervous he was when thinking about trying to carry the water on the 8th hole. Then said how he’s been in the gym working on some muscles 🥺

Bin the driver off. Hit 3 Wood. I did the same and I’m far straighter- 220-260 yards depending on the hole

I do generally. Took me a few rounds to discover this hack. Still struggle with distance.

Need lessons, they will come at some point this year.

I maintain I could go round my course with lower scores hitting nothing longer than 7 iron from tee to green. Need to try it one day

haha yeh same, its the one club that consistently goes straight. I notice more and more people using a 7-wood which I'm quite tempted to try out.

I’m currently working in an estate in the middle of Redditch golf club

Anyone ever played it?

Yeh it's not that far from me. Played a long time ago but it was very nice, pretty pricey though for visitors.

I got a Ping 7 wood last year. It's a great club both off the deck and off the tee that replaces the 5 iron for me. So easy to hit and very consistently straight. I bought a 5 Wood to match and am also thinking of ditching the 6 iron for a 9 wood too now.

We have a 'three clubs and a putter' competition at our place each year. Most people select a 3 or 5 wood, 6 or 7 iron, and some sort of wedge. The winning score is always around 39-40 points and it's amazing how many still score 36+ points

I often play with just half a set when it's carry only during winter and my scores rarely suffer that much.

And Seve went round in level par with just a 5 iron when he was about 15 years old so maybe it's the way forward :)

Yeah, ours doesn’t do this format which is a shame

But after last year’s euphoric rollercoaster, I’m getting bad vibes for this year. I can see someone like Tommy getting pipped by one shot by someone like Patrick Reed :frantics::cry:

Reed 1st, Fleetwood 2nd

It’s materialising already :frantics:

There’s a betting game we play organised by someone in our village which he does for each major

Using Paddy Powers odds at the time the entries open you have to select 4 players who have a combined odds of >200/1

Each of those 4 players have to make Friday’s cut in order for you to progress to the next stage

Ive gone

Rai 110/1

Rose 22/1

Cam Smith 60/1

Cantlay 50/1

Just Cantlay ruining my day so far

Friday night is carnage- There are 77 entries this time round. I’ll be surprised if more than 15 people make it to the next stage

For all his dominance, I really don't enjoy watching Scottie play golf.

Face like a smacked arse most of the time and never really looks like he's enjoying himself.

Little charisma, flat personality, quite boring.

I like it there, food in the clubhouse is lovely! Did find the fairways a bit close, plenty of shouts of Fore!

Took up golf in October, mostly playing 9 holes at Enderby where I am scoring between 51 and 58 every time. Just can't break 50.

Got 111 at Humberstone and 108 at Whetstone.

Will get there one day. I'm pretty decent chipping and putting but my driving is horrendous. Constant slice.

Yeah breaking 100 has been tricky for me too, got 102 last Friday at Whetstone. Maybe I should play off the reds lol I know what you mean about the close together fairways, especially holes 2,3 and 4. Always happy to get those out of the way

I’ve played off the reds a few times before at my place

Its surprisingly difficult- Par 4 trees coming into play if you drag a shot left that otherwise wouldn’t be an issue off the yellows/whites

Thought I'd check Whetstone out online, but why not have any prices or booking ability for visitors on the website?

Played last week before I became a member, £18 I think I paid for 18 holes. You have to call to book a tee time, the website is a bit outdated.

Never thought of it like that, did it make a big difference to your score?

No, I shot roughly the same as off the yellows.

it went from being what I thought would be a confidence booster to demoralising 😂
