I will take a few lessons I think, do you have to be a member of the club to take the lessons, I suppose you do?

No, not at all. You can take lessons with anyone.

Wayne Cooper at Lingdale would be an excellent choice IMO

there are others if you want me to go into more details

I'm gonna wait until I move back to Wigston in a few weeks. Is there any courses/instructors around there?

Anders Mankert at Cosby Golf Club is one of the best teachers in the country, he would be a good pro to work with, glowing endorsements from a few i know that have been to see him

I forgot to post my selections up last week, but too be honest I didn't get a return. I had some great e/w shouts going in to the final round of the Byron Nelson with Cabrera, Woodland and Leishman but all of them didn't make an impression. What was even more frustrating was I also had them in some e/w doubles with McDowell and even if one of them had placed i'd have been looking half of GMac's odds at 9s so 4.5/1 and 1/4 of either 80/1, 150/1 or 30/1 would have been a fair few hundred!!!

Oh well, onwards and upwards.

I love this weeks golf both tournaments are favourites of mine and i'll be off to Wentworth to watch on Sunday.

If it rains as forecasted then Rory is massive at 12/1 as he comes in to his own when it's soft with his immense power and ball control. I've had £30 WIN on the lad.

Stan James are paying 6 places, as are a few other bookies so make sure you shop around to get the extra place.

Ross Fisher 1.5 points e/w at 50/1 - Fisher has started to show glimpses of form this season on both tours and if he can return to the class he produced a few years back then he'll easily be in the mix this week. It's a course he's enjoyed success on before with a 2nd place finish and some other top 10's.

Victor Dubuisson 1.5 points e/w at 100/1 - With a top 20 on his debut last year and some good form of late i'm all over this chap.

Branden Grace 2 points e/w at 50/1 - 5th on his debut here last year, he looked good in the match play last week and i've been monitoring his progress for a while. I was on him for The Masters and like Olesen he had a shocking 1st round, followed by 3 good rounds and he finished T18 which wasn't bad at all. He's finding his feet on the PGA Tour so i'm happy to get stuck in to him back on the Euro Tour even in a high class field.

Joel Sjoholm 1 points e/w at 300/1 - This bloke is erratic and a character, he's in fairly poor form hence the price. He's also not got a good record at Wentworth but last year he landed some massive places for me and he finished in the top 5 in the Alfred Dunhill and in the Welsh Open so he's suited to British courses.

Shane Lowry 1 points e/w at 66/1 1st Round Leader - I was impressed with Shane for most of the match play last week and i've no idea how he ended up losing to Aitken but his game is there. He can be an explosive golfer and i'm taking a punt on him going low tomorrow.

Crowne Plaza:

Ben Crane 2 points e/w at 50/1 - He like Ross Fisher has great form at this event but without ever winning it. He's had 3 top 5's and he's also had a top 5 this season in the last few months so he knows he can feature. The field isn't as strong as previous years and i'm surprised he's 50/1 given the odds of some lesser experienced and quality players.

Jordan Spieth 1.5 points win at 80/1 - Spieth doesn't have the experience of Crane but he has the raw confidence and ability to feature here. He's done extremely well this year on tour and certainly in events when a lot of the main boys are missing.

Harris English 2 points e/w at 40/1 - He like Spieth have fantastic ability and their maiden win can't be far away. English was superb for 3 rounds last week before the wind on the 4th day put paid to his challenge. He's a touch incosistent but he finished 5th here last year on his debut and the course suits his game.

Pat Perez 1 points e/w at 66/1 1st Round Leader - he's a bit like Lowry as a player who can come flying out the traps and then often fizzles out. He's also had some top 5 finishes in this event before so there's no doubts he can't go low on this course

You will be given hundreds of pieces of advice about golf but the one given by Donut is the most crucial , get the

fundementals sorted.

One in a hundred players is a natural, you're not. Lessons may seem expensive but in the long run its the only way.

I've spent a fortune on gadgets ,equipment and quick fixes but still play "whack fvck"!

Don't practice your mistakes, listen to Donut, get help, from the start.

Fowler, Speith, Yul-Noh

Mcilroy, Lynn, Ulhlein

YES ROO!!!!

I considered Lynn but I read some of his responses on twitter and he doesn't rate his chances this week as he's never played well at Wentworth before?

Speith was good but had a poor 3rd round which cost him a top 5 finish.

This week

Euro

Ilonen 35/1

Uihlein 40/1

Wiesberger 30/1

US

Furyk 66/1

Odds to be posted later (all each way):

Scandanavian Masters: Henrik Norlander, Jonas Blixt, Mikko Illonen

Memorial: Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Ben Kohles

Cameron Tringdale is massive at 250/1 in the without Woods market. The lad needs a big tournament to get in to the US Open and he had a top 20 finish at Memorial last year. It's a bit of a punt but he must be desperate to get in to the US Open as it's being played at Merion where he's done well at before. I think I read he won 3.5 points in the Walker Cup there one year. Things like that can spur a golfer on just that extra bit and therefore i'm having a good e/w nibble at that price.

Ryan Moore at 125/1 and Kevin Streelman at 66/1 are both big odds and are both in form. Missed the cut last week but prior to that Streelman was in the form of his life and it looked like another win was round the corner, i'm sticking with him. Moore's done ok at Memorial before too.

I'm on Steve Webster, Alvaro Quiros and Madsen in the Nordea. All decent odds and just had some small each way's. Webbie plays in cycles of form and I like to try and be on him when he does as bookies fluctuate his odds wildly. Quiros has recovered from his injury problems and as an absolute bomber, this course suits him down to the ground. Madsen is red hot right now and him qualifying for the US Open last week was another massive shot in the arm of confidence.

Illonen won the Nordea Masters and Jonas Blixt finished 2nd

Not to blow my own trumpet, but nice tipping :trumpet: :trumpet:

Well done lads, I seemed to be the only person not on Illonen this week. I've backed him a few times this year and he's just failed to get over the line but to be fair he's been quality and this course was always going to suit him. Well done.

There was a lot of people on the Illonen/Kuchar double which would have been sweet.

I've had Fowler in mind for the US Open for ages and i'm starting to be concerned with his current form, I suppose he'll drift a bit but i'd like some confidence in him really as he's not known for his mental toughness.

Posted

Problem with Fowler is that in almost every round he plays if you look at his scores he throws in either a double bogey or a triple bogey with alarming regularity. He simply doesnt shoot those easy 69's and 68's that keep you ticking over with limited mistakes.

I was on him at Memorial because its an oldschool course and he is a shotmaker. Not to mention a couple of years ago there he made a great run at it there.

He is the sort of player who can get very hot, but can play some wild golf too. Look at Farmers this year, he nearly didnt break 80 in round one, and then came back with a friday 65...... steadiness isnt his forte, hence hes not a "US Open'er"

Posted

His record at Merion as an amateur is very good but i'm put off by everything you say. He's incapable of grinding out scores. He's a good 1st round leader to bet on though, as one week he can shoot 77 and the other 62

Playing at the Belfry end of next month for our works golf tournament. 1 round on the PGA and 1 round on the Derby.

Just looked at both courses online, I'll be lucky to shot under 200 on both!

Derby course is easy, its just like a regular knock around on Beedles or somewhere like that.

The PGA is a great course, its well bunkered and although inland has a linksy feel.

Playing the Brabazon off the back tees, thats when shit gets real

Posted

I know a lot of people who think the PGA is the top Belfry course. And i may be inclined to agree. The Brabazon has iconic holes made famous by the Ryder Cup, but the PGA is a great design

Posted

I prefer the PGA myself but as you say there are iconic holes on Brabazon. I had a thrape with the driver on the 10th,, just caught the over-hanging trees by the green. My brother drove it with a 4-wood, animal.

Does anyone else think that Mickleson at 28/1 for the US Open is massive?

Straight driving is a pre requisite of success at a US Open and Mickelson doesnt keep the ball in play enough. A generous price but i dont think he will be a factor
