Got my fitting coming up for some new Titleist irons at the St Ives Titleist centre.

Looking at the CB 712's. Shaft wise itll be something low spin like Dynamic Gold or KBS C-Taper.

The 913 D2 they fitted up for me is beastly.

Looking forward to it. Just thought id put that one out there

Paddy Power mobile offering 7 places for the US Open.

Still not sure who to back yet. Conditions are wet which will make it interesting.

Just done a bit of research on the course and from what i've read and seen you need to be hitting the fairways. The fairways look narrow on some holes and the rough looks thick. The course looks long too with a couple of 500 yrd par 4's and a couple 250yrd Par 3's. Plus with the rain the greens could be very interesting.

Scott, Woods and Rory are paired together, the commentators will be all over the Williams and Tiger issue

Had a great week with Luiten win and Palmer place, had them in an e/w double too. That gives me over £200 to play with for this weeks biggie.

Fowler has a great record around Merion as an amatuer but i'm not overly confident he's ready to win a major right now, if ever. Snedeker fits the bill for me so far. I'll look at the long shots like I did in the masters as that's where I had more joy.

I wonder if Ernie can get in the mix again?

Mickleson my big fancy for this for some reason. Feel he's due a major again and he was red hot with his putter in the last round at the St.Jude.

Watson, Colsaerts, Z.Johnson, with a standard bet on Fernandez-Castano all EW and I quite fancy Mannessero to get close to a place.

I'll be honest, i'm usually well prepared for majors in my research but this tournament is always the hard one for me and 5 nights on the piss in Magaluf hasn't helped.

Stenson tee to green has been unreal this year, he ticks all the boxes in that sense but his temperament is always the biggest factor.

I'll spend my whole working day doing some research.

Narrowed my list down to about 10 and even then there is more fancies. Heard even with all the rain the greens are still reasonably quick according to Marcus Fraiser.

G-Mac in the rain!

My three big longshots are David Lingmerth, Sang Moon-Bae and Justin Hicks.

I'm big in to Snedeker, Stenson and Els, i've left Fowler alone and not sure if that'll hurt me but i'll see.

Right.

Been down 'the range' a few times and can hit the ball off the auto tee thing with a driver but a lot of the time it curls off to the right (a few even went over the fence onto the bloody course!). How do I correct that shit.

Also, what's a good distance for a drive?

The distance you hit the ball is related to the speed of your swing, and the quality of contact you make with the ball.

99% of handicap golfers will always OVERESTIMATE how far they hit the ball. When you hear on TV a pro booming a 310 yard drive, in reality this is a long, long, LONG way. I would estimate the average 15-20 or so golfer probably would hit their driver in the region of 190-225 yards, certainly much shorter than they THINK theyve hit it. Distance will generally increase as the handicap gets lower.

As for your slice:

The reason your ball slices is (in laymans terms) your CLUBFACE is open in relation to the direction you are swinging. For example, if your ball takes off at the target you are aiming at, but then slices to the right, your clubface was pointed at the target, and thats why the ball took off in that direction.

Your swing PATH however was LEFT of the target, hence your clubface relative to where you swung was open. this is what puts the nasty slice spin onto your ball.

This is the physics of what is happening, simply a differential between the direction of your swing, and where your clubface is aimed.

There could be a number of reasons as to why these physics are happening, but, if you could post a video on here for me to see, it would be very obvious WHAT is causing the problem and fixing it would be very simple.

Shortned my list down even more, still not finalised my bets yet tho.

Day, Schwartzel, Speith, Mahan, Furyk, Horschell, Hicks.

I really liked Matt Every on this course but he didn't get a start which is a shame.

Do you think it will favour morning or tee times.

Absolutely mate! I think the early startes will get most of their round done but the late starters will struggle.

I know a lot of people have been talking about Fowlers record at Merion when he played in the Walker Cup, he won 2 matches and halved another. Apparently Morgan Hoffmann did exactly the same and he is 350/1 therefore i've had a nibble on him for that reason alone. He's shown some decent form this season but it's merely a speculative punt.

Ah cool thanks - unfortunately I can't post a video as I post on here from my phone - that said, what you've said makes sense and paying attention to small movements of the body is kinda part of my job so hopefully I should be able to adapt - I will be booking some proper lessons soon too.

Bloodbath, absolute bloodbath. I'm going back in with more bets.

Stenson, Snedeker, Hicks are all the pits. Lingmerth, Chappell, Morgan Hoffmann all in trouble which leaves only Els and Moon-Bae who could easily have a right chop as well.

Bad doo. Having said that it's going to be a rollercoaster of a major i'm sure.

It's nowhere near over yet. Still really fancy Big Phil though.

Hope you've had a decent punt on him. You called it from the start. Mate of mine has had £250 e/w on him at 25/1, crazy I thought at the time!!!

Wowzer! Hope he wins then! Yeah had a few quid on it!

Phil should have this wrapped up but his putting has let him down.

So far i'm reasonably happy backed 5 golfers, 1 didn't make the cut but still have Horscell, Jay Day, Charl and Mahan all within 3 strokes of the lead. Got them all each way.

Really hoping Donald or Rose can pull something out the bag, would love to see an English Major winner, it's been a long time. Also really can't stand Phil Mickelson. Don't know why, so don't ask, I can't put my finger in it, but there's something about him the I really dislike.

First time I've ever sat and watched golf, really enjoying it. Admittedly, having had a punt on Mickelson e/w is helping!

I'll say your EW money is safe.
