Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Anyone been to any of these places? Me and the old ball and chain are in desperate need of a stress-busting short break. Which one???
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Been to all of them! I was only very young when I went to Barcelona and Istanbul though so I can't tell you too much about them. Sorrento is spectacular, really enjoyed walking around the area - beautiful scenery. Felt very calm and tranquil passing through the rural areas. Needless to say Barcelona and Istanbul would be a bit more hustle and bustle (unless you went out into the surrounding countryside) but maybe that's what you're looking for.
pSinatra Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Barcelona is fantastic & Istanbul is probably even better. I'm not the most travelled of people, but I have been New York, Prague, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Boston, Seville, Rome. I didn't know a lot about Istanbul & I wasn't expecting much.......but it's outstanding. I would recommend it to anyone.
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 There's the Prince's Islands near Istanbul. They are quiet and peaceful but only a cheap ferry ride to the hustle and bustle. Where can I find a Turkish fixture list? Will they still be playing at the end of May? Ends 19th May. Poo !
Webbo Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Only been to Barcelona but I can heartily recommend it.
jonthefox Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Only been to Barcelona but I can heartily recommend it. Same.
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 I thought Barcelona was nice? Was thinking of staying on the coast and getting a train to the city?
Zingari Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Maybe there's an obvious answer , but why have you put "Not Constantinople"?
Webbo Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 I thought Barcelona was nice? Was thinking of staying on the coast and getting a train to the city? We went on an organised day trip there when we stayed in Salou although you can get a ordinary service bus from there as well.
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 Maybe there's an obvious answer , but why have you put "Not Constantinople"? This song alone makes me want to go to Istanbul...not Constantinople !!

Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 We went on an organised day trip there when we stayed in Salou although you can get a ordinary service bus from there as well. My sister went to I think Tossa de Mar and she said it was really easy to get the train to Barcelona. So in the day, walks around the city, in the evening, on the coast.
Zingari Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Someone will have to put the vid of Freddy Mercury and the fat bird singing now, edit; ( i think it might be Hattie Jacques but I'm not sure)
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 Based on the three songs above, which city is it best to visit? The Siouxsie and the Banshees song is best, but I used to love 'Istanbul, not Constantinople' when I was a yoof. Didn't know it was a cover though.
pSinatra Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Sitges is nice if you don't mind paying a bit extra & it's virtually within walking distance of Barcelona.
Webbo Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Someone will have to put the vid of Freddy Mercury and the fat bird singing now, edit; ( i think it might be Hattie Jacques but I'm not sure) What about..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4ghkusH5hk
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 Sitges is nice if you don't mind paying a bit extra & it's virtually within walking distance of Barcelona. Ok, will have a look. Never heard of that place. What about..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4ghkusH5hk I think I like Siouxsie Sioux better tbh. ???!!! Based on songs, this place looks pretty good. If you can't stand the whole thing, just have a look what happens at 1 min 56 seconds.
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 South Wales doesn't just have Newport... Sold !! My wife just told me her Nanny Hardy came from Cwmbran. I didn't know that. What a day this is turning out to be !!
Zingari Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Does anyone else think that "Istanbul not Constantinople" song is the same tune as "Putting on the Ritz "?
Deucalion Posted 27 April 2013 Author Posted 27 April 2013 Does anyone else think that "Istanbul not Constantinople" song is the same tune as "Putting on the Ritz "? I do now, yeah. Good spot !!
Guest Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Istanbul and Barcelona are both fantastic though in different ways. I don't know sorrento.
wagfox Posted 27 April 2013 Posted 27 April 2013 Barcelona............ nice place, weekend enough. Sorrento.......... Very nice , easy boat links to Capri, The Amalfi coast and of course hustle and bustle of Naples with Mount Vesuvious. Istanbul........... exciting with east and west influences, easy to get around with Topki palace and the Blue Mosque. Not forgetting the Spice market a must. Enjoy wherever you go.
