Father Ted Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 England squad from BBC Sport: This is Stuart Pearce's full England under-21 squad for Euro 2013, which starts for his team on 5 June against Italy in Tel Aviv. Goalkeepers: Butland (Stoke), Steele (Middlesbrough), Rudd (Norwich);Defenders: Caulker (Tottenham), Clyne (Southampton), Dawson (West Brom), Lees (Leeds), Rose (Sunderland, loan from Tottenham), Shaw (Southampton), Smith (Tottenham Hotspur), Wisdom (Liverpool);Midfielders: Chalobah (Watford, loan from Chelsea), Henderson (Liverpool), Ince (Blackpool), Lansbury (Nottingham Forest), Lowe (Blackburn), McEachran (Chelsea), McManaman (Wigan Athletic), Shelvey (Liverpool), Townsend (QPR, loan from Tottenham); Forwards - Zaha (Crystal Palace, loan from Manchester United), Marvin Sordell (Bolton), Connor Wickham (Sunderland). How have Lansbury, McEachran and Lowe made it ahead of our very own Matty James?
Larry_LCFC Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 No Waghorn Think the idea behind that is that they need the ball to actually go in the net
RowlattsFox Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 The worrying thing about that is the quality of striker coming through as we are already weak in that area, is Sordell and Wickham the best we have? Would have thrown Sturridge and Welbeck in, it's important we perform well at these competions although I'm sure they'll be off to Brazil with the seniors. Can't believe Henderson still qualifies for under 21s. Personally think Keane is unlucky, epsecially considering Lees is in there ahead of him. Could make a decent side out that squad though.
brockmyster Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 About time Mcmanman got a call up to the U21s id imagine the cup final gave him a good help but hes been causing problems all season
ousefox Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Strong defence and midfield for that level, but still don't see many of them as future England players. We seriously need to find some new strikers out of somewhere too. Need somebody who is thrown in at the deep for their end like Owen or Rooney if the national team have any chance of making a semi-final.
AKCJ Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Butland Clyne Caulker Dawson Shaw Zaha Chalobah Henderson Ince Sordell Wickham
Dan Posted 14 May 2013 Posted 14 May 2013 Steele Clyne - Dawson - Caulker - Shaw Chalobah - Lansbury McManaman - Henderson - Ince Zaha We really are doomed. If that's England's side in 5 years then we'll have even more reason to sob over not getting the 2018 WC - we might not even fvcking be there. Some very good players in that, but the likes of Spain and Germany would piss on it.

ScouseFox Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 What was the u21 side 5 years before "the golden era"? Would be very surprised if it was anything remotely similar. In fact what was in 5 years ago from now? No Rooney, no Walcott, no Gerrard, Wilshere, Parker, Walker, Baines etc etc. Surely?
Floating Fox Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Don't see any as future England players, when more than 1 have already played for the first team? Butland is Hart's replacement Henderson will make more apperances Caulker will also be in england's team. And Dan look at the U21 squad, 4 years ago when we got to the final only to be battered by the Germans (German side had Neuer, Boateng, Hummels, Ozil, Khedira!): GK Scott Loach - Was Watford's No1 at the time, now Ispwich No1 in 2nd Tier. No England caps RB Martin Cranie - Was in Portsmouth's Reserves at the time, now plays for Barnsley in 2nd Tier. No england caps CB Micah Richards - Man City squad player Premiership. 13 England caps CB Nedum Onuoha - Was a fringle player in Prem with Man city. Now relegated with QPR to 2nd Tier. No England caps LB Kieran Gibbs - Arsenal reserve at the time. Now just breaking through to first team in Premiership. 2 England Caps DM Fabrice Muamba - Tragic. CM Lee Cattermole - Was a premier league regular with Wigan, now a squad player with sunderland in the Prem. No England caps CM Mark Noble © - Was and still is a Premier league regular with West Ham. No England caps RW James Milner - Was a premier league starter for Villa, after £28mil move to Man city is one the most expensive English players. 34 England caps LW Adam Johnson-Had just been relegated from the Premier league with Middlesborough. Now a regular in the top flight for Sunderland. 12 England caps CF Theo Walcott - Was & Still is a starter for Arsenal in Prmier League. 31 England caps
Floating Fox Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Only 5 out of that 11 went on to play for England and only 2 of them with signifact caps. Not many of England's current team come through the youth ranks!
Aleksz Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 The Dutch squad is the only other squad that is out and it shits on England's. Strootman, Martins Indi, Willems, Van Rhijn, Clasie, Fer, Maher, Luuk De Jong & Ola John to name a few. Bruma & Van Aanholt too.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 Tbf we don't put our best players in e.g. Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Welbeck, Sturridge, Walker, Jones, Cleverley etc.

Holland should have a good future, like Germany, Spain and Belgium.
dominicmsb Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 Just me who thinks the squad looks decent then... a lot of players missing from playing for the senior squad too... Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Walker, Welbeck, Wilshere
