Guest ttfn Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Didn`t Beckford score 15 goals in his first season for us? Oh yes, i`m sorry, FA Cup goals don`t count do they! Last season he spent a fair while out injured, but scored 9 goals in 22 games for Huddersfield, which is only slightly over one goal every 2 games, which isn`t too shabby really. I think he will do very well at Bolton, if he stays injury free. Not if we're considering his ability at Championship level. This is really not hard to understand, I can't believe people continue to be so flaming dense when it comes to understanding this. As for the Huddersfield stat, do we not count his appearances for us last season? And where was Beckford for 85% of last season before he admittedly played a big role in digging them out of the hole that he had played a role in getting them into. If he goes to Bolton and does well then it won't change the fact that I said he'd be a disaster when he signed for us and he has proved to be a disaster. For the record I don't think he's a good Championship striker, and I don't think there's any team in the division that could make him look good. That's my opinion. I have facts to back up that he's not a good Championship striker. You can keep manipulating the goals and appearances figures all you like, but the fact of the matter is that his record at Championship level - 16 goals in 73 games (0.22 goals per game)- is rubbish for any striker, let alone one on the wedge Beckford is allegedly on (this is further compounded by FFP). As a means of comparison: Iain Hume - 54 goals in 204 games (0.26 goals per game) -in a frequently relegation-threatened team, with many of these games as a very young, inexperienced player. Matty Fryatt - 49 goals in 194 games (0.25 goals per game) -in a frequently relegation-threatened team, with many of these games as a very young, inexperienced player. David Nugent - 75 goals in 222 games (0.34 goals per game) Luciano Becchio - 47 goals in 108 games (0.44 goals per game) - Over-shadowed somewhat by Beckford at Leeds but evidently has a more transferable set of skills at Championship level. These are facts. Quite apart from the widely received opinion that Hume and Nugent also found/find the energy to run themselves into the ground for the team (which is more than can be said for JB) and that Beckford is supposedly in the prime of his career and has never scored double-figures in the league above League One level, these ought to tell you all you need to know about Beckford's capabilities in the Championship. Yours sincerely, Rafa Benitez, purveyor of the facts. PS Mark de Vries' record in the Championship was 9 goals in 57 games (0.16 goals per game) which makes JB look prolific. So he's a step up from old Mark. Bless him. Maybe I should include cup goals after all... Just pray wood improves his first touch cos lastseason he could not trap a bag of cement albeit 15 goals the majority of which were scored at Millwall. Eh? He scored 18 goals. This is a fact. RB.

Deucalion Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Why would anyone try to trap a bag of cement? One, it will stop where it falls. Two, it will break your ankle. Cement trapping is not a good way to judge a player in my opinion.

Deucalion Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 Logical as always Although... if this is part of our training regime, it could explain some of Waghorn's finishing after he'd been here for while.
Dan Posted 26 June 2013 Posted 26 June 2013 People will always take a punt on a player like Beckford because on his day he looks unplayable. He'll get a hat trick and look set for a twenty goal season minimum. The problem is - as NFP said when he first arrived - the team has to be set up to play to his strengths (which may not suit everyone else), on an off day he might as well not be playing (defending from the front is an alien concept) and once out the team his mardy-arsed attitude will reverberate around the squad....remember Sven only signed him after trying to get 11 or so other strikers and Moyes bit off our hands.... Very fair post and I think when you weigh it up and consider what he's on, it really isn't worth the gamble.
Deucalion Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Beckford scores from a Matt Mills long ball. Pearson Out !!
marko Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Beckford scores from a Matt Mills long ball. Pearson Out !! We just need Neil Danns to perform Rain Drops to celebrate for the full house.
sly1 Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Y are still taking about that idiot he is a as been c, mon
Mark_w Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Does anyone think that the coming season could be the one in which Jermaine Beckford turns his 'potential' into goals for the club? Will he be played? Will he stay? An in-form Beckford, utilised correctly, could surprise us all.... How Wood finished last season (yes I know he got twenty goals) worried me. Is Pearson going to try to get the best out of Beckford? Or is it too late? Opinions please.... You make me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon. Just want to say, I stand by this post. What a woeful opening post that was.
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Just want to say, I stand by this post. What a woeful opening post that was.Ah, but look at the debate it created! That was it's raison d'etre...Look past the obvious Marky mark.. I doubt any player in recent times has generated as much opinion as Jermaine. Not even Waghorn.. PS: And it's STILL being brought up!..

A challenge to your ego....One thing, you just have to say "I was wrong" about one thing. It won't hurt, it'll help you as a person.

Bloody Hell mate! I've been wrong and am wrong about plenty and say so sometimes. It don't mean you shouldn't throw your hat in though does it. Who cares, frankly?

65RosesFox Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 In Ocotber I had a bet with a fellow Leicetser Fan who is pro Sven, Beckford, Danns & Mills, and anti Pearson and Vardy. The bet was that I said Vardy would outscore Beckford this season. All goals in all competitions counted. Current score Vardy 16, Beckford 9. The loser has to get the other strikers name on the back of their Leicester shirt with the Number 1. I think I'm home and dry!

Surely forcing him to put Beckford on the back of his shirt would be a better punishment?
Carl the Llama Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Where's all this Col bashing come from? Few posters are anywhere near as nice about holding a contrary opinion as Col is. Don't marginalise the few posters on here who actually try to be reasonable with their different opinion.

He would prefer Beckford 1 on the back but the majority of fans who see it will laugh at it. Might have to propose that instead, good thinking.
