The Beckford Saga part God knows....

Recommended Posts

Posted

We may have agreed a fee, but personal terms with Beckford and Bolton and Beckford and us, probably looking for a Matt Mills style pay-off, still need to be agreed. Hopefully this saga will be over very soon, but I feel their could well be another 10 pages or so before he signs.

Whatever your opinion on how good he is I think we will all be glad when this is resolved.

the article says he was willing to take a wage cut

But at what price, like Mills going to Bolton we are rumoured to have paid him off as compo for a lower wage at Bolton. Hopefully it will be concluded quickly but we know that player transfers can often hit snags when it comes to personal terms, especially with agents involved.

It was my understanding that personal terms had been agreed but the original stumbling block was the fee.

If so, this should be over quickly

Praise The Lord and hallelujah!!

Can we please now stop threads on him, pretty please!!

lol, ask those trying to turn it into an entirely Nigel Pearson problem, I'll simply be glad when it's over.

Expect it to crop up again if he starts scoring for Bolton though

So people are happy that it looks like Beckford could be going to a title rival and one of the favourites for promotion?

This implies to me that Bolton see something in the player.

Interesting...

We once saw something in Beckford, too.

Col it's inevitable that he will score against us, it's also inevitable that he will bag a shite load of goals for promotion winning Bolton aka DJ for Blackpool a few seasons ago, however I'm glad were getting rid. Never put the effort in for Leicester IMO

Bad bad signing IMO

Fair enough... I can't argue with that...

I really really think some people have a problem with taking this place too seriously like it's life and death.

Majority of us know that Wood is the better option than Beckford but some people's vendetta against him is outrageous.

The first SEASON he signed he scored 15 goals, the cup is part of the seasonal campaign. I don't care how many people say only 9 were in the league, that's just a very easy way to make him look poor as well as a very weak argument. That didn't matter for Wood against Burton or Huddersfield this season.

The main issue with Beckford is wages. How many people know the man himself to know exactly what he's like?

Ok he's lazy at times and that's not what we want at all, but he scored some vital goals for us In that one full(ish) season.

Personally, it's a shame it never worked out for him properly here - and it's for the best interest of our club that he moves on.

Great post there, Bert.

The last two lines sum something up for me as well. I've said before, I once read an interview with King in the foxfanzine and he stated that Beckford is the nicest player at the club... People seem to make opinions of players (every sportsman, every celebrity etc) due to other things, such as what they read in the interview.

I also think it's a shame it never worked out. For me, I rate him higher/better than Waghorn. Beckford doesn't deserve half the abuse he gets on here, just like other players here.

He does have the potential and ability to score goals at this level. He looked very dangerous in certain games for us, such as Norwich away.

What other clubs see is exactly what we saw in him. He's a goalscorer.

If he ever put the effort in to work on his all round game or in the games, he'd be a very dangerous player.

Watching him every week for us, we now know that he doesn't or at least hasn't for us or Huddersfield

I get your point Rich and the answer is no.

It IS interesting though how Bolton feel they can get something out of Beckford, like they did Mills.

By all accounts Mills is not popular. Lets hope Jermaine flops too.

In my opinion, he'll go there and probably score maybe 10-12 goals, nothing major. I personally think Wood was made to play on with that knee injury for the latter part of last season which is why he didn't look as good as his first few games and I think once he gets a pre season under his belt he'll be fit and raring to go.

It's all down to whether you think Jermaine Beckford would score considerably more than Wood or Nugent - keeping Becks would mean displacing one of them because JB won't sit on the bench - and to be quite frank I just can't see it. Becks and Nugent are much of a muchness, I think both are capable of between 10-15 goals a season, but if rumours are to be believed, Beckford is on a much bigger wedge and it's obvious which player has the better attitude and which player Pearson prefers.

If Nugent and Wood can reach or better their goal tallies of last season, that's at least 36 goals between them, which is more than good enough for a promotion chasing side.

You make a good point to be fair, who would you have as a back up/plan b/game changer though as vardy and futacs appear to be inadequate. Schlupp?

It depends if Bolton play to Beckford's strengths, we didn't, he is a goal poacher who at Leeds largely fed on the scraps off the big lad up front. He did score the odd belter and had the pace to get in behind but look at a Beckford highlights package on youtube you will see lots of headed goals from crosses and snapshots in the box.

He was at his best when playing with wingers whipping the ball in and a big man alongside.

We didn't play like that last season, nor the season before, he failed on the pitch because he was expected to do things beyond his ability, track back, hold the ball up and pass it around a bit.

Bolton could well get the best out of JB depends on their style of play. We couldn't.

I think we need to bring someone in. The problem is though, you're not going to get many quality players who are happy to sit on the bench and striker is one position where you don't want to rotate too much, because once a player goes on a scoring run, they won't want to be benched. Beckford, Wood and Nugent would all be unhappy sitting on the bench, and rightly so.

We either need to get a good young striker on loan who would be happy to sit on the bench - someone like Waggy in his first season here, who was able to come on and make an impact - or we need to get in an older head who can offer something different, like Kevin Phillips - how many times has he come off the bench and bagged a goal?

I'd like us to sign Simeon Jackson now he's been released by Norwich, but would he be happy sitting on the bench? Hmm. It's a tricky role to fill, for sure.

Err no, not really. God, it's like a chimp's tea party trying to have a discussion with you two. I'll let you get back to flinging your faeces around.

Calm down I have no intension of flinging you anywhere.

So, Mark W. is looking forward to another season under Pearson. You must surely be a glutton for punishment Mark.  lol  lol

One Championship and two play off finishes in full seasons is hardly a 'glutton for punishment' when you consider what we have put up with over the last ten years.
