CardiffAlex Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 What would you choose? You lot have won cups before & obviously most of your fans would remember them... If you were in Wigan's shoes last year, what would you choose? What about this season? If you could only have one..
Guest Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 We've already had this discussion. Many times. Shouldn't you be more interested in your own team than us?
Guest Bilo Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 This is a more sensible topic. There is nothing I would love more than seeing Leicester City win the FA Cup. The fact we have been a reasonably successful club over the past 129 years, solid if unspectacular, makes it all the more disappointing we've never lifted the most famous domestic trophy in the world. 16th/17th in the Premiership with no trophy would please the accountants more than the other option, but would be quickly forgotten in the annals of our history. Relegation and an FA Cup win like Wigan would be remembered for years to come, as would the European tour the following season.
Fox92 Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 I'd rather see us win the FA Cup than anything else. If we ever got promoted though, I'd like us to base ourselves on Swansea. I'm not just saying this to wind you up, but Swansea play excellent attacking football, stayed up with style and then won a domestic trophy the following season.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Swansea, to me, are the model for every newly promoted club. A rare moment of agreement between you and I.
davieG Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 We've lost an fa cup final and been relegated in the same season and most people remember it as a lost cup final. We're also well known for our many cup final defeats so getting that monkey off our backs would be a great achievement. Even Cov have won a cup final! We're never going to win the top league the way football is structured and being also rans in a euro comp as an ultimate achievement is not particularly appealing so it's got to be an Fa cup win above all else for me.
Jimothy Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 FA Cup for me. But I'm a realist enough to know that that is more acheiveable if we are an established Premier League team with the prospect of signing better quality players. Non top flight teams making finals in recent years has been luck of the draw rather than the norm, and Wigan's victory coupled with relegation was a one off. If we can get up and try and build on our position, try and become at least a midtable Premier League team then an FA Cup win will be much more likely.
Danizen Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 In our position, I'd say promotion. Forget what the history books say, in our financial position, we need the millions from the Premier League. The FA Cup hasn't done Portsmouth much good. Saying that, if we were in Wigan's position, I'd take a cup win and relegation over survival every time.
Leicesterpool Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Winning the fa cup and getting into europe would be fantastic, though i seem to recall very recently when Birmingham were in the europa league they were playing the championship, it is very difficult due to the amount games and looking at there fixtures they didn't come alive until they got knocked out of the europa league. But anyway i'd rather win the fa cup than survival in the premier greed.
Corky Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Fa Cup. We'll go up and down I'm sure in the next few years, winning the cup would probably be a one-off and the fact we've never won it grates.
RonnieTodger Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 FA Cup - We've lost the final 4 times and it's the one that's always eluded us. It's a real hallmark for a club and takes a place in history. Another 6/7 year stint in the top-flight is ground we've been on many times before.
Soar Fox Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Promotion. Fed up of playing in this league, fed up of going to the same grounds every year. Like Facesloth said, we've got a better chance of wining the FA Cup if we were in the premiership with better players.
Kitchandro Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 I agree with most in the thread, FA Cup would be much more special. But also agree with Facey, we're more likely to win it if we're in the Premiership, and it all seems less likely to happen with each passing year.
Dan Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 FA Cup every time. I'd rather have silverware that we could actually look back on for the rest of our history.
