A Kindle or do you prefer proper books ?

It would probably be a good idea for schools to use them instead of students lugging around several kilos of books.

That is not a bad idea, probably be cheaper too, can you make notes on a kindle, and highlight or bookmark certain parts?

Kindle, I got fed up with having stacks of read books about the house with nowhere to put them. Plus I've got a mate who can download any book I want for nothing.

I got a Kindle a few years ago for Christmas.

I didn't know whether I would use it at the time but I couldn't go back to books now.  I no longer have books clogging up my house, if I fancy a new book it can be here in minutes and, if I am going away, I can buy several books and choose what I want to read when I am there.

I got a rather nice hardback novel for Father's Day and I am currently reading it.  People can wax lyrical about books and be as nostalgic as they like.  I just wish this book was on KIndle as then I wouldn't get wrist ache before I go to bed.

And not the good kind of wrist-ache !

Why would you play tennis before bed?

I like the books, but my Mrs has a Sony Reader contraption and I've tried it out. It's much easier to read from a kindle lying down in bed, but overall I prefer to have books on the shelf.

Ran out of space in the bookshelf though and have piles of books in the spare room. Need to sort that out as it lacks sophistication.

Love reading. I tried out the kindle using a phone app. Considering the fact that I use my phone a lot (not using the kindle app) and that I love reading you'd expect the two to go hand in hand. It doesn't work though. There's nothing like having a book on the shelf at home, and something you can physically hold.

Just wondering whether the people who prefer books over kindle's also feel the same about CD's/Records and iPods?!

Edit- The only device I have for listening to music on the move is my phone. I downloaded at most about 15 songs purely so when at work with no music as the case sometimes is, I can put it on.

I wouldn't know how to turn an iPod on!

I've got hundreds of books on a wall to wall bookcase . But it's only to disguise the door to the secret passageway to the crypt.

I don't want everyone knowing that I'm holding secret masonic skull and bones rituals.

I don't think a kindle would be  very effective for my purposes.

p.s.

If any virgins(female) are reading this can you p.m. me as we have a  meeting  next full moon if you fancy it . all robes supplied.

My question to most people in this thread would be, how on earth are you getting time to read books/kindles if you're spending the majority of your spare time contributing to Foxestalk? Unless you don't sleep, there aren't enough hours in the day to do both

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I now have a pile of 40-50 books waiting to be read. They've been building up for years. The main reason being that whatever spare time I had is now taken up with reading on the web

I love Crime/Thriller books. Also big fan of Bill Bryson and Bernard Cornwell.

I've just been given for free, ever single one of the Sharpe books to read. Loved the TV series but never read the books.

I have a lot of reading to do!

I employ  a chap to read my books for me these days , it cheap and convenient .
He just makes up an opinion for me and jots down a few notes about what i should say about it.
My new reader is wheelchair bound , profoundly deaf and only has the use of one hand , but ATOS quite rightly refused him invalidity benefit , because it's quite obvious he's capable of doing this and it frees me up to do other stuff.
.
I just feel this is  Noblesse Oblige to allow him to flourish.     It's win win all round .

If I'm being totally honest , he does smell a bit though . His personal hygiene is not really up to scratch and he does make rather agonised blood curdling noises a little too often for my liking , but I try to overlook these things . We've all got to do our bit to ensure the ATOS bosses get nice fat bonus payouts

Hopefully you chaps in the further reaches of the empire won't be long catching up with our new age enlightenment.  :)

Nobody reads down here anyway. Its all surf, sand and sex. Endless sex.

I'm using my books to fuel the barbeque.
