Kitchandro Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Isn't 'unproven' just another way of saying 'not good enough'? or shit Every great player was once unproven. You're not born world class.
tommyh Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Bendtner is 10 times better than any options we have at the minute!! Yes hes a knob etc, but as i said if we can get him on a deal where we have to pay nothing towards his wage we got nothin to lose!
Kitchandro Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Firstly let's be sensible and not count Schlupp as a striker. We've got 3 - Nugent, Vardy and Wood. All are very good on their day. But.... Nugent has started the season badly off form. Last season he was poor for 3 months and didn't score for 15 games or something. Wood started life with us on fire but then seemed to lose all confidence. He hasn't looked quite the same since. Vardy spent most of last season looking like a lower league player. It's only the first few games of this season where he's started to look the part. The way I see it is that's not enough for me to be confident in. They let us down last season as all were off form at the same time. I'd certainly feel better if we had someone else.
Nick Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Jace, we all like to support the team and the players and the 'potential' players may have but you need to stop smoking the rock, man. However, two of our 'strikers' are no more than utility players used to fill formation changes - they are completely unproven scoring goals at this level. This leaves us with two strikers and the above to either go on loan or given a go in reserve, cup and first team matches when we are two goals up. We need a quality addition. Sad but true.

Schlupp is the only striker out of the four who could be classed as a utility player
Dan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Isn't 'unproven' just another way of saying 'not good enough'? or shit It really isn't. Every great player was once unproven. You're not born world class. My point exactly. Lionel Messi, at some stage, was 'unproven'.
hackneyfox Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 It really isn't. My point exactly. Lionel Messi, at some stage, was 'unproven'. You're right of course I was being a bit silly but 'unproven' doesn't guarantee that you will turn into Lionel Messi at some point in your career and Vardy & Schlupp give no hint whatsoever that they will ever become great players for us letalone Barcelona.

It doesn't, but it's the whole mentality of it. If you wrote off every player because they were 'unproven', then who exactly will play? It's the kind of risks we've got to be prepared to take. If you don't, then you've got no chance of ever bringing players through.

Agreed, but for me Schlupp has proven nothing or perhaps proven that he has a lot to learn. I'd be happy to see a new striker come in.

He does have a lot to learn, but the lack of continuity in any aspect of his game is ridiculous. Has he literally ever played more than 3 consecutive games, in the same position? This is in over two seasons of him featuring a fair bit too. He's nowhere near the finished article but if he never has any form of continuity, then he never will be.
broughtonblue Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Schulpp is a decent player and might develop into something half decent but lets not go overboard. Still don't see him as a striker, finishing not good enough. 'Schulpp is a decent player, and might develop into something HALF decent' isn't that going backwards?
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Bendtner is 10 times better than any options we have at the minute!! Yes hes a knob etc, but as i said if we can get him on a deal where we have to pay nothing towards his wage we got nothin to lose! Bendtner is fookin awful.. I'd hate to see him at the club. Possibly one of the most over-rated strikers of recent times. Beckford excluded...
jamesmilner Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 schlupp didnt go on trial a man u . he was there while were going through eeep and being assessed for our class at our academy . those who think man u was interested in him as a player are crazy and a bit thick .
Jace Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Well someones lying then either Jamesmilner or the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21671302 Man Utd to discuss deal for Leicester striker Leicester City could be on the verge of agreeing to sell Jeffrey Schlupp to Manchester United, reports BBC Radio Leicester. Schlupp, 20, has been on trial with the Old Trafford club for more a month and featured in two under-21 games against Liverpool and West Ham last week.
munf1987 Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 I don't think utd were interested in Schlupp but more to benefit Leicester by hopefully allowing him to learn of some world class players. But how does Schlupp going to train with Utd affect our assessment of the youth academy? I thought it was the coaching standards and facilities that get assessed not the standard of youth players in the squad
Jace Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 And how does Schlupp playing for the Man Utd under 21s against Liverpool and West Ham have anything to do with the academy assessment?
jamesmilner Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 and another thick fan that listens to the press !! not a mention from nige about sale etc . next step was his return to club .

Nick Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Schlupp is the only striker out of the four who could be classed as a utility player I see your point but he's not strong enough up front on his own and not first choice or proven when playing two up front so we use him either slightly wider or with three up front which kinda means we utilise him because we have him - not because he's a first choice asset..... though I appreciate he doesn't fill in as a right back or in nets.
Nick Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Pearson was never clear, was he about what Schlupp was doing there I remember in interview he said he 'wasn't on trial' but the opportunity had arose for him to train with them and he was 'allowing him to do so.........' Hmm.

Hang on hang on, they decided to assess our academy to see if it was standard of category one for the 'excellent' player plan, based on having one player train at Man Utd for a few weeks? Is this a wind up?
Narborough_fox Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 If we're going for anyone then it should be Saido Berahino from West Brom. 2 in 2 for England U21's as well as a hat-trick on his debut for West Brom. Only 19 as well, although it'll never happen in reality.
Wortho Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 It might be worth trying to get Carlton Cole, although it would be expensive.
