I have it here:

Godfrey Leonard Beardsley, born Apr qtr 1879, died Sheringham, Norfolk, 10th June 1912.

Career: Jan 1894 Rossal School, Dec 1896 Loughborough, Feb 1898 loan to Loughborough Corinthians, Sept 1898 Leicester Fosse (until 1901), Oct 1898 Leicester Banks - Reigate Priory - Old Rossalians (1903 Corinthians)

Fosse debut: 10.9.1898 vs Woolwich Arsenal (away)

Given that amateur goalkeeper "Goff" interrupted his law studies to turn professional, it was somewhat ironic that the legality of his transfer from the Luffs to the Fosse was such a contentious matter. Fosse were initially accused of poaching, but it was Loughborough's swift about-turn on this matter which caused resignations among their own committee and caught the curiosity of the FA. Eventually, Fosse were fined £50, their secretary William Clark was suspended sine die, but Godfrey was allowed to continue between the sticks. Which he did with some distinction, once saving a thrice-taken penalty at Small Heath in March 1899. He was occasionally prone to injury, and indeed missed the odd Fosse game in his first season because of buffetings received in Thursday League football as an inside-forward for the local Banks side. On resuming his law practice (briefly in Wakefield and London, then in Loughborough), he was allowed to revert to amateur status, and indeed assisted the mighty Corinthians occasionally before his early death. His brother WF Bent Beardsley (also a goalkeeper; and also a solicitor) founded Loughborough Corinthians (for whom Godfrey had played one game at left-back in February 1898), and went on to become president of Quorn Methodists, while another brother (Herbert, a stockbroker) represented Fosse against the more-famous Corinthians at Christmas 1899, but we are increasingly doubtful of any familial connection to former Forest goalkeeper Fred Beardsley, credited with founding the Arsenal club in 1886.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys Gentlemen, I did post in another section but it disappeared, I guess someone who knows what to do put it in the proper place for me  so Thanks for that whoever it was, it is appreciated. I notice it is possible to attach files to these, any chance anyone might feel able to scan the relevant pages in the book and attach them here. Yes I know its cheeky but if you don't ask you don't get. Thanks again.

WF Bent Beardsley .... William Frederick Bent Beardsley. Bent was his mothers maiden name .

Yes he died of Tuberculosis.

Thanks Mark_w  for the extra bit

Fred Beardsley wasn't one of ours. I know all our going back to 1750 but there was a shed load of Beardsleys in Ilkeston, Duffield and Greasley.

A couple of years ago, I started researching my family tree, and when I got bored and gave up, my wife carried on.

She came up with this chap.  What do you know about him?

He made a change as most of my relatives seemed to be in the workhouse.

Also, while I still lived in Leicester I used to know someone who was related to Amos Sherriff.  He was apparently another pugilist who went on to be Lord Mayor of Leicester, or so she used to say.

Amos Sherriff was a Lord Mayor but it says nothing about boxing .

I think Omar Sharif nicked his name and just made it sound a bit more foreign.

1922 AMOS SHERRIFF,
(465)

(Cycle and China Dealer).

Born of humble parents in Russell Street, Leic., 6 January 1856, being a son of William Sherriff, a glove frameworker, and believed to be descended from the Sheriffs or Sherriffs of Oxford county. He received practically no schooling, but as a young man, spent much of his spare time in learning to read and write, in other words, he is a self educated man, having risen from the ranks. For many years he worked in a local brick yard, wheeling clay and making bricks by hand. A strong supporter of the local labour party and ever ready to aid the distressed and suffering poor. For seventeen years he was a member of the Leic. Board of Guardians and for a time chairman of that body.
Mr. Sherriff entered the council chamber for the West Humberstone Ward in 1908 and except for a short period (1923-4) retained his seat until 1928. He was placed on the Commission of the Peace for the borough in 1921 and elected an alderman 26 November 1928, a position he still retains as a member of the corporation.
He married in 1882 Annie, daughter of Samuel Bagnall of Ashby de la Zouch and later of Leic., by whom, who was born at Ashby de la Zouch and is still living, he has had issue, four sons and one daughter.
Residence 1935: , Belgrave Road, Leic.
