Harry - LCFC Posted 24 October 2013 Posted 24 October 2013 I started playing small sided games regularly two years ago, my passing and control of the ball has improved massively over that time. I've gone from being a bit of hoofer to being very comfortable on the ball and playing football the right way. Bit of a humblebrag I know, sorry, but I know from experience that playing small sided games works - you see the ball much, much more than you would in 11-a-side and the the nature of the game forces you to pass the ball in order to win the match. Big advocate if this now, gives you a proper education in football.
Dan Posted 24 October 2013 Posted 24 October 2013 I've tried to change my style without actually playing the game. I don't play at the minute and have never been a regular but know full-well what side of the game I'd work on if I ever played regularly (which I could do with).
Webbo Posted 24 October 2013 Posted 24 October 2013 Years ago I took my nephew to his under 8s game. There was a dad there who was shouting at his kid to break one of the opposition players legs. Under 8s.

Far better than kids playing on park pitches with full size goals being taught to put the ball high and long as no one can reach it.
Stadt Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 My brother plays U9s and it's taken the county FA 2/3 years to sort out a league in which the teams are at a similar ability, they were getting hammered 7/8/9 - 0 every week which is harmful to the development at that age. The FA aren't proactive enough when it comes to changing grass roots.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 When my sister played for Liverpool and Everton academy parents and spectators weren't allowed to make any noise unless it was a clap or cheer for a goal/great save etc. I don't know if it's the same at all academies but I assume it is. It's just park football that's got a problem, not the academies. This is what I'm thinking. Surely all the best players will be in academies where this won't be happening and it'll be a much more professional environment?
cambridgefox Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 My lads team are shocking. He has changed from rugby to football,he had never played before and his positioning was awful( to be expected at 10 and had never played a single game before)first game 1 shot all match my lad 20 yards hit the post.lucky strike! I give him a few bits of advice to help him learn, bits of encouragement for the team if they have a good move break down.but that's it. What I like about this team is the manager said right from the start. That ALL players no matter of ability will have time on the bench and no person will be on the bench for more than 15 mins. They play an hour. They drew their first match 3-3 last week after losing 9-0,11-2 and 8-1. My lad was away last week, perhaps he is the week link!
Kitchandro Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 But it encourages clubs to buy players that suit that style and players to play that way thus affecting both theirs and their team mates chances of improving and developing their 'football' game. And isn't this where their Dads get the notion that this is what it's all about and pass that onto their kids. It would seem many Palace fans are keen to have Pulis down there - I think that sums up the problem. I'm all for my team playing nice football, I'd definitely prefer it - and I wouldn't particularly want Pulis as a manager. But players will move on from clubs like that constantly, trying to create a philosophy when you're struggling is going to be very difficult and is more of a long term thing. Palace's priority must be to sure up their defence, Pulis can do that. They must try and stay up, being in the top division is what fans want, because being amongst the best is the point of sport. If Pulis can do that they must. I'd be happy for City to play crap football and stay up for a couple of seasons. After that, I'd expect us to build on it and try to play better football. But in the short term survival is important. It's not the job of English football clubs to be a feeder for the England football team. Players need to learn technical skill while they're young, not in their mid 20s. It's too late by that time.

Corky Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 If we went up I'd appreciate the difference in opposition and away games I doubt we'd want to make too pretty. At home though I'd hope we played with some flair because I think we could upset a few at the KP with good football.

I think we'd just have to play a counter attacking game, which I think works very well if done correctly, it wouldn't be too hard to change our current side to do it.
