Bert Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 World class player who never won Player of the Year at his club and only twice got into the PFA Team of the Year? World class players should be getting nominated for the Ballon d'Or. Scholes has been nominated for the Ballon D'Or though? May not have received any votes but you're continuing to make yourself look a complete idiot.
One Legged Beaver Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 I can't believe what I'm reading here, one of the most successful club footballers of all time playing at the highest level not world class?
Grandad. Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Pride of the Midlands is right in one sense, people only started referring to Paul Scholes as 'world class' in the back end of his career, people weren't saying it through the early 00's it was all said when he was coming to the end of his career. For me though for how good he was, he bottled it for England, because he was asked to play on the left of midfield, pathetic.
Guest ttfn Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 People were definitely saying Scholes was World Class before (say) 2004. Notwithstanding that, I agree, he has been hyped up far more towards the end of his career.

The majority weren't though mate, before Barcelona brought the modern game to its new level the Premier League was just an all out end to end game, that is why the Premier League back then was regarded as the best and the most entertaining. People only appreciated Scholes's abilities to control a game once they had seen Xavi and Iniesta doing so in Spain, probably why only a small minority only appreciated what Xabi Alonso did at Liverpool he controlled everything Liverpool did, now he is doing it at Real Madrid people regard him much higher.
ScouseFox Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Gotta say im shocked he never won united player of the year. The way their fans go on about him now you'd have thought he'd won it 15 years in a row.
LESTA-JESTER Posted 10 May 2014 Posted 10 May 2014 You don't use trophies to compare individual players. Ryan Giggs has won 13 league titles. Gareth Bale has won 0 league titles. But Bale is better than Giggs ever was. When Bale has played 20+years consistantly then come back. Bale ain't fit to lace Giggs boots. As for Scholes or Gerrard, Scholes all day long.

fleckneymike Posted 10 May 2014 Posted 10 May 2014 On the original post. Scholes, not even a debate in my mind.

As for Scholes or Gerrard, Scholes all day long. why do we need to wait. It's clear to see that Bale is superior to Giggs. Do we also need to wait for Cristiano Ronaldo to play for 20+ years to say that he is better than GIggs? No. Longest career does not equal best player.
Grandad. Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 At least I admit I support Liverpool on here, these kind of threads don't half bring out the closet Man United fans..
MC Prussian Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 At least I admit I support Liverpool on here, these kind of threads don't half bring out the closet Man United fans..It's a tough choice between pestilence and cholera. At least admit you enjoyed the (deserved) praise for Liverpool when they were in the driving seat for the PL title.
