Jace Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 When I worked for a bank there was no rule then regarding paying in money its quite possible that money could be from a private car sale if it was a 1 off. The traces of cocaine are no evidence at all I bet many notes in circulation have traces doesn't mean the owner is Walter White just means someones once used it to snort. Jon the hat makes a good point though if it wasn't declared by anyone and went back to the finder anyone could do this to launder it legally.
Kitchandro Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 I don't believe in Karma at all, he should have kept it, you don't get fortune like that often in life. He may think it was a good deed but who exactly is it helping out?

He may think it was a good deed but who exactly is it helping out? A couple of MP's paying taxi cabs, a few terrorists out in Somalia, Robert Mugabe and Rincewind. Yep, he should have kept it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 Is it good-will if you need an incentive? Hooray! I totally AGREE Mark.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 What DOES happen to drugs siezed by the police? If we ignore any potentially cynical theories around the police dealing it back on the streets which must be incredibly unlikely is there any moral way of extracting the money from it? Seems such a waste for a multi million pound cocaine haul to just be destroyed. Maybe it gets donated for medical research? They all get incinerated I remember a cannabis factory we raided in West Wycombe, We found some hundred 20 kg bags of cannabis, and some two hundred plants growing in a cellar. ONE plant is kept for evidence, and photos taken of the haul, before they went straight to the incinerator. Likewise with all drugs. I stank of cannabis for a week after that, even after a bath and a change of clothing!

The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 I wonder if that gets put in the 'public purse' . That would be a christmas party i would be interested in!
whoareyaaa Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 I would have kept it without question, obviously the original owner has either forgot about it which means he would of been rich as you don't forget about 18k lying around in cash or the person has either been locked up or passed away... in any of these cases I would of kept it. If I found a wallet on the street with a couple of hundred quid in I would hand it in but 18k in cash no chance, that's a years wage to most people which they would never save anyway. Harsh that he didn't get anything but if he wanted it back that bad (3 court cases) or some kind of reward why hand it in in the first place? And the laughable 'public perse' the magical money that never gets seen.
David Guiza Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 Granted in the interest of fairness the man should have perhaps been granted a reward, but taking the matter to court is frankly ridiculous; and a waste of time and money. There is nothing in law that suggests a person should receive a reward for any act of kindness, there's not even a good Samaritan law in this country let alone that.

Vlad the Fox Posted 8 November 2013 Posted 8 November 2013 I'd have put it all on City to be relegated. 40/1 easy money! Fool. I'd have waited until we were at about 750/1. Minted.
