England vs Chile and Germany

Correct, no matter what the result was tonight getting to the quarters in Brazil will be overachieving

I disagree not the best performance, but how many of those players will play in Brazil? I think the quater finals is a par performance for England anything less would be failure.

The same people that moan when we lose a friendly shout how it's only a meaningless friendly when we beat Spain or put in a good performance against Brazil.

1. Lets not get too down over the England performance

2. Not enough people on here are giving the credit Chile deserve. They are a good side

I knew I would come on here to a load of over reacting, standard procedure on FoxesTalk.

As the lovely FoxFanazer said, who's overreacting?

They are crap, they stand no chance in Brazil, and it's hilarious when they lose, because idiots love to big them up.

Don't think it was as bad as some have made out. We massively missed Gerrard, and Cleverley was abysmal for even the short time he was on, completely pointless squad member, nowhere near good enough even for the bench. Lallana was ok, Rodreguiz was a bit quiet. Forster might have done better on the 2nd but oh well. A few player have picked up some valuable game time before next summer. None of those new boys are likely to be cementing first team spots , but at least we won't be taking 4 or 5 capless players to the tournament. As for the rest, we know Milner is a fit in anywhere utility player and he's practically on the plane, we know Cahill isn't good enough but he's our 2nd best defender so what we gonna do, we know Baines isn't quite as good defensively as Cole. People constantly admit our limitation then constantly moan when those limitation are reached. People admit we're a quarter final team at best, yet moan when we play a 2nd string and don't play like Spain.

1. Because weve just qualified for the world cup, we were unbeaten, we were making changes tonight and blooding some new talent. It was their first taste of international football tonight, and its a steep learning curve. Admittedly, we played poorly. but for crying out loud lets not go down the ''we win were brilliant, we lose were awful road''

2. Theyre clearly better than ''half decent'' they won the most games in south american qualifying, they score lots of goals, and you dont watch much football if you think theyre a one man team. they were without Vidal and Valdivia tonight who are both quality, do you not rate Isla? i certainly do, Carlos Carmona is a quality player, so to say theyre a one man team is just plain wrong.

Ok maybe not a one man team but if they are the sort of level we get comfortably beaten by then I really despair. Maybe some players got experience but overall it proves our lack of depth and 7 months before the world cup, for me is slightly concerning.

That's shit, 4/5 or 5 German clubs would sell more than 1k

I wouldn't be surprised if the FA have tried to charge them a silly price and a lot are boycotting. Bizarre how they're bringing less than Chile did.

Most will play quite a big part I would say, of the starting side only Lallana, Rodriguez, Forster and probably Jones won't play a big part, maybe Baines if Cole is first choice but the rest I imagine will be involved big time.

It's not down to that result, I just don't think we're going to do very well particularly in South America. Granted we'll scrape a 1-0 by playing some boring containing football like when we played Spain but I really would rather we go out of a competition than doing that

We drew a lot of games though, against teams we really should of been beating, the only good thing about qualifying was, how the actually qualified, they did it in style with a great performance. Yes some new talent came in tonight, but saying that, you had the likes of Rooney, Lampard, Cahill, Johnson all playing, all who are pretty much regulars. Plus the likes of Milner, Baines and Wilshere who also start now and again, plus if Welbeck wasn't injured he might of started ahead of Rodriguez.

There are many international teams better than England at keeping the ball, Chile did it tonight and we will see it a lot in the World Cup from the likes of Spain, Germany & many South American teams.

Chile are a good side, not the most talented but they can pass the ball well, close down well, retain possession well, something which England are quite average at, at times.

No positives out of tonight, many are not international quality, but as our back up isn't much good either, those players will probably be taken to the World Cup if we like it or not.

The majority. It's amazing how bad we are at it. Our main weakness I'd say.

Rather go out of the competition than win ever game 1-0?

Ask any Greek fan in 04 if they'd agree.

People say "it's not our strongest team" or "Chile are a good side".

They had a Forest player at right back for the last half an hour. We all saw Forest on Saturday and they were absolutely shit.

Regardless of how "thin" England's options are, we're not having to pick a mid-table Championship player at full back.

I don't really understand what I'm arguing here because I'm three sheets to the wind and I really like Roy Hodgson, but losing at home to Chile is a fvcking disgrace, whatever the football hipsters might say, We've got much, much better players than Chile and failing to beat them at home is a huge concern, even ahead of a World Cup in which i'd be pleased to make it as far as the last 16

I like to see the best team win the competition, particularly a World Cup. At club level, I feel different and wouldn't care how we won any trophy but I'm only an England fan by virtue of being English, I don't care about the national side really. Obviously I want us to do well and everything but I'd be embarrassed to see us scrape boring 1-0s to win a competition which is our only chance.

Funny how those who say it's 'just a friendly' will no doubt be waxing lyrical if we win on Tuesday. Works both ways.

I'd start Lallana against Germany I would. He was the one bright spark.

Some people have strange ideas of what being embarrassed is, would you actually be embarrassed if we organised ourselfs well kept it tight and scored a goal on the break?

We are not technically as good as Spain Brazil Germany Argentina etc so we have to set up well tactically if we want to win games against these sides. Much like Chille did to us tonight.

Would love to see Lallana and Townsend in the same team, with both of them in we really need a strong holding midfielder.

That's not what Chile did to us tonight, they used the ball and passed it much better than we ever do tonight. If we played a team like Spain in a major championships we would be like Chelsea against Barca and Bayern when they won the Champions League. Yes there is more than one way to win a football game but I personally, at international level, prefer to see the best team win and not the team that rides their luck a bit and gets a goal on the break.

Take it back to club level and it's basically what Forest did to us, not that we were any good. But the point remains that Forest has two attacks, scored twice and spent the second half wasting the clock down and slowing the game down. That's within their rights to do, to some extent, but it's not what I want to see.

This is a big problem with football in our country at national level, everything is about just winning and not the entertainment of it all. I still want to be entertained when I watch football and England haven't done that for years

Chile didn't play like Forest at all. Chile dominated possession and played some lovely football. They gave it away cheaply a couple of times in their own half but they recovered, despite only having 3 at the back for a lot of the game. When England gave it away to Chile in our own half, Sanchez made it 0-2...

Agree with LD's last point there. It's always the short-term approach in England and we're guilty of it at all levels. We're happy to be absolute shit at all levels as long as we win, even when the game means nothing.

I'd have taken a defeat where we outplayed Chile tonight over a win where they outplayed us. Sadly, we got the worst from both options.

I agree with your point about the problem with English football, particularly at youth level we need to learn to play football and not worry about results. But in major tournaments I would take what Greece did in 04 any day of the week.
