Corky Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 That's fine when he's playing as the number 10 but on Friday he was the lone centre forward so he should have worn 9. Because of his selfishness Lallana had to wear 9 and Wilshere had to wear 7 which are both wrong. Rooney wears 9, Wilshere wears 10 and Lallana wears 7. They would have been the correct numbers. Seriously, who cares? I doubt Lallana was gutted, on his England debut, to find he was wearing number 9 instead of 10.

You are quite possibly the strangest person on this forum. When you consider the selection of window licking weirdos we have, from kingfox to Lamby, that's pretty ****ing special.
Ric Flair Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Chris Smalling is the pits of a footballer, as is Tom Cleverley. If they were at Norwich or somewhere equally as crap, they'd not get the amount of chances they are given.

foxfanazer Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Randomly team has been confirmed for tomorrow. England team to face Germany: Hart, Cole, Jagielka, Smalling, Walker, Cleverley, Lallana, Rooney, Townsend, Sturridge #SSN Cleverley and Smalling aren't international class imo
Danno Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Cleverley is alright, he is good at running at defences and quick passing, probably only good enough for the bench though. Carrick and Gerrard should be starting most teams as they are our two best passers, without them we end up being dominated by people like fvcking Chile.

How do you know Lallana didn't request the number 9? Or Wilshere the 7? Or Hodgson have everyone their numbers and no one had a say? Does anyone else actually care?

Rooney taking 10 is what messed it up.
AKCJ Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 This is probably the stupidest post to ever hit FoxesTalk, seriously what was going through your minute brain when you thought to post this? Have you never noticed before that number 10 is Rooney's number for England? Just like number 4 is Gerrard's? Even when Gerrard was playing on the left under Capello he would wear number 4, not 11. Absolute idiot.

If they were at Norwich or somewhere equally as crap, they'd not get the amount of chances they are given. They're not 'the pits'. If they were at Norwich then you'd say they should be in the England side.
Bayfox Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Yeah I'm a big fan I meant they have 1 player you could consider as world class. As a team they keep possession nicely and are very confident on the ball. They press quite well and defend alright. Still think its a poor showing 1 more than us then?
Jimothy Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 England XI to face Germany: Hart, Walker, Smalling, Jagielka, Cole, Gerrard (capt), Cleverley, Townsend, Rooney, Lallana and Sturridge.
Dan Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 Defeat. I'm impressed by the attacking quartet and it's the exact four I'd have played, but we're going to get absolutely crucified at the back and I worry that he's going to try and sit back. If we sit back tonight, we will be annihilated.
Bert Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 That's the only thing that worries me defence. We've only one decent defender. I look at other teams defences and think wow, they're just as ordinary as ours, yet in the big tournaments they seem to step up and we buckle? In fact that's probably the difference. We could do no worse than recall JT. Let's forget about him off the pitch for a minute, on the pitch he is a leader and can organise a defence, both what we really lack at the minute.

He's retired though Bert, not been dropped. He might not want to reverse that decision. I do agree that the defence is a major weakness in the team, going forward we look threatening.

Who cares?

I thought we were decent defensively in the Euros. Terry's gone. We won't win it with him and we won't win it without him - and the former means pandering out to a nobhead yet again. A no from me.
StanSP Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 Gut feeling is that we'll lose tonight. Germany seem to be better and more efficient than us in nearly all departments, even if they are missing a few players. It's a good test for some players though to show they can step it up against a much higher standard of opposition. Now's their chance, their real chance, to prove a point and to prove that they earn a place in the World Cup squad. Despite it only being a friendly. Regardless of result, there's bound to be some over-exaggerations and plenty of hyperbole in the aftermath. Win and some will think we'll win the World Cup. Lose and some will think we won't even make it out of group stages.
Guest ttfn Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 A look at the Dutch defence at the last World Cup shows that you don't need individually good defenders to go a long way. A look at the Dutch midfield and forwards suggests that the above probably only applies if you've got lots of good attacking options to make up for it.

Manwell Pablo Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 This has always been bollocks. If we sit back these sides will kill us. England have only ever done ok when they've been positive. It's the only way English players know how to play. We will get dicked by every man and his dog sooner or later if we don't adopt a positive mentality and learn how to pass the ball. Keeping the ball is massively important in football and we can't do that. And we need to try and score some pissing goals against these sides. Playing for penalties is obviously pointless so play to our own attacking strengths, whatever they may be. None of those sides mentioned are perfect, Brazil have always had defensive frailties for example so you have to try and exploit that. We are not total minnows, but we have to attempt to beat teams and not just avoid losing, because we're shit at that anyway. Actually normally we're actually very good at that.
Bert Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 He's retired though Bert, not been dropped. He might not want to reverse that decision. I do agree that the defence is a major weakness in the team, going forward we look threatening. Yes I understand that. Although retiring in football means nothing these days, just look at Ben Foster, Paul Scholes etc. In reply to Dan, I know it's time to move on from JT, but our defence lacks everything what his game is.
