Weller in Tights Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Interesting article in the Observer today about Premier League Clubs recognising the demise of atmosphere, with managers such as Villas Boas bemoaning the lack of atmosphere and Man Utd Chairman looking to re-introduce standing. I know we have a debate/discussion on here every day about atmosphere, but it shows that there is a widespread belief something should be done. I know some on have argued on here that they go down City to watch the football and the atmosphere is incidental. Fair enough, everyone to their own opinion. I must admit though, I grew up in the days of the tribal raw atmosphere that could put goose bumps on your spine, I love watching city, I love watching football, but I definitely like watching Live football for the atmosphere/banter. No clever answers (sorry), just thought I would point you towards the Observer article as an interesting read. Let's see who is first to think they are incredibly funny and suggest switching the Kop and Family Stand.
purpleronnie Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 I would imagine the biggest problem we have with safe standing is the police. From what I've heard they are dead against it, so I can't see how it can happen.
Guest Bilo Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 I would imagine the biggest problem we have with safe standing is the police. From what I've heard they are dead against it, so I can't see how it can happen. The cynic in me says that is because supporting it would mean a tacit admission that their colleagues at the SYP. and they alone, were to blame for the Hillsborough Disaster as standing itself would be wholly absolved.
Super_horns Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 They can thank the rise of football as a business rather than a true game for a lack of atmosphere in a sense. Ticket prices hardly help - people expect to be entertained now and prepared to wait maybe...
The Year Of The Fox Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 It's a combination of the game having too much money involved- ticket prices, disillusioned fans when thinking about players wages, The FA doing their best to sanitise crowds to make matchdays more family friendly as well as the whole standing debate.
shade Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 what about swapping the kop with the family stand?
johnny the fox Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 What about swapping the west stand for the east stand ? and the family stand for flat in the town?
Stadt Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 What about swapping the west stand for the east stand ? and the family stand for flat in the town? It's not up to the club to do this, we need to do it ourselves.
Jollie Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 nothing to do with South Yorkshire Police or admissions of guilt at all...nobody in their right mind could imagine going back to the type of terraces we had until Hillborough, it would never happen. Germany and Austria have safe standing areas that can be converted into a seating area...when the stand is used for standing fans are separated by metal posts so each fan still has a designated space...i see no issue with the h & s aspects as surely Germany & Austria have similar (if nott higher) standards.
Mack Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 There is a simple answer to this issue.... Just pipe crowd noise on the tannoy system like they did some years ago at York City! Or of course I did have this idea... well.... more like a vision that came to me deep in the night... something new, fresh and groundbreaking... something truly magical yet simple... so here goes... The club should swap the Kop with the Family stand! There I've finally said it, don't shoot the messenger!
sdb Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Make football affordable so more people go, especially those who intrinsically care about their club and not just scenesters who go to show off to their mates
purpleronnie Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Make football affordable so more people go, especially those who intrinsically care about their club and not just scenesters who go to show off to their mates I think the clubs would rather have no atmosphere than lose money.
Fox92 Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 There's so much wrong with football, and I do believe ticket prices is the main issue. This leads to other aspects of football, such as poor atmospheres, in my opinion. Thing is with Manchester United, how many of their 70,000 home crowd are day trippers? 25%? I can't imagine people that turn up for it as a 'day out' (yes it is a day out but when you're regular it's different) are singing... But watch Manchester United away from home, regardless of how many they take, they are among the best in the Country. There needs to be something done about ticket pricing, but when you get clubs like Chelsea paying players £250,000 I doubt it will ever happen.
Larry_LCFC Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Genuinely someone remind me why the kop and family stand cant be switched. Obviously the away fans have to stay where they are for safety reasons etc etc but whats the reasoning for the families not being moved?

Obviously the away fans have to stay where they are for safety reasons etc etc but whats the reasoning for the families not being moved? The South Stand is bigger. The South Stand supporters believe they are in a 'kop' and won't move.
Kitchandro Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Fvck all this swapping stands bollocks, let's just swap our stadium for a decent one.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 The South Stand is bigger. The South Stand supporters believe they are in a 'kop' and won't move. That or they just think The kop should be quiet corner
The Year Of The Fox Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Fvck all this swapping stands bollocks, let's just swap our stadium for a decent one. Or fans for people who don't have phones with internet connection, or fans who are loud!
Lionheart Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 We need someone of Man Utd stature to go for a standing area and if they get it then it will open the gate for everyone else .

purpleronnie Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 The clubs recognise the problem then why did Chelsea send this email to their fans:-
