Alf Bentley Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Bob Crow, RMT union leader died today. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/mar/11/bob-crow-dies-52-rmt-union-leader I saw that someone had posted in this thread and came to see whether it was Tony Benn (now left hospital for care at home, apparently), but instead it was a much more unexpected lefty.... Shocking news, this one - especially as he was only a year older than me and hadn't been ill, as far as I'm aware. Massive heart attack, apparently. He never struck me as a high-stress type, but it must have been a high-stress job - and none of us really knows what's going on in our bodies or in other people's minds, I suppose... Never like to hear of these sudden early deaths, whoever it is - and not just out of feelings of personal mortality. It must be terrible for close family/friends when something like this happens.
Guest MattP Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 I've got Scargill in the local pub death sweep, very annoying as I considered Crow and it would have been a nice £50 this week with it being Cheltenham.

Very inconsiderate of him dying like he has. But be consoled that it is one less leftie to worry about.

Being very anti-EU I could have done with him hanging about, he was a decent man to have on the side of the argument and would have bought a lot of left wing votes to the "no" campaign.

Jimothy Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Stephen Hawking Tony Benn Iain Paisley Margaret Fulton Kirk Douglas Under 40 bonus Miley Cyrus 1 point for Ross-Kemp!
Alf Bentley Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Terry Prachett Denis Healey Bob Doel Mikhail Gorbachev Wilko Johnson Under 40s Jenna Jameson After seeing Healey on Newsnight talking about Benn, I don't rate your chances with him. Looked physically fit and mentally very strong. He might be 96, but he looked good for another 10 years (famous last words...). Wilko looked like a banker, too, seeing as he'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer and given about a year to live about a year ago.....but he's just brought out a new album with Roger Daltrey.
Jimothy Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Clarissa Dickson-Wright, one very large half of the Two Fat Ladies cookery duo, has died aged 66.
Rincewind Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 The other one went last year didn't she? So it's no fat ladies now.
Mike Oxlong Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 One day, putting a fat bird in the oven next day, being a fat bird in the oven.
Jimothy Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 The other one went last year didn't she? So it's no fat ladies now. The article said the other one died in 1999.
Kitchandro Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 One day fat, next day dead. Ok that wasn't funny but it's no surprise.
Mike Oxlong Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 You could've said - one day fat, next day cooking fat - but that would've been mean.
Kitchandro Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 How about One day making bread, next day brown bread.
RobHawk Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Isn't she the one who made some rather derisory remarks about our fine city?

Webbo Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Clarissa Dickson-Wright, one very large half of the Two Fat Ladies cookery duo, has died aged 66. One day just a fat lady Next day the fat lady sings.
Rincewind Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 The article said the other one died in 1999. I'm sure that is wrong. I have seen them on the TV within the last couple of years. They must have repeated the shows then because I remember them being on since 1999. Was there another fat lady that took the first ones place?

I knew she died a few years back, just wasn't aware it was that long. She was 71 back then, so quite a lot older than this one. You must have seen repeats.
