Just guessing, but could Nugent be going?

It makes business sence not to offer Nuge a contract at this stage, which is why he won't get one. If someone comes in for him then I wouldn't be suprised if would want to leave, money talks with footballers.

Here’s my take on Nugent and these possible contract talks (or lack of them)

  • Nugent – If we did get promoted, not good enough by far. If we didn’t, nowhere near worth the money he’s on whatever he’s on judging on the last twelve months, so if he did get a contract, and only if we stay in this division, it would have to be a very reduced one. Personally I don’t think he’ll be here long and that doesn’t bother me.
  • Caspar – No point in talking, if we don’t go up he’ll be wanting a move to the Premiership. Most goalkeepers there at present seem better than him though so I can’t immediately think of where he’d be a first team regular.
  • Lloyd – Great servant to us and I believe that he would be able to cause problems for the opposition in the Premiership also, certainly as an impact player. Worth a contract either way.
  • Wes – The most difficult one to sus out for me. Absolute rock last season, not quite hit the same form this season so far. Is it me, or does he appear to be carrying just a little bit more timber this season? Good enough for the Premiership? Borderline for me. Could be offered a deal for if we go up or a much reduced one if we don’t due to money situation. Could we get Miquel? If so, do the club see Moore, Miquel and Was as better value for money, particularly because of the age of the first two and could that be another possible reason why they’re stalling? Don’t think Wes should panic though, they’d be plenty of clubs wanting him in the summer if he didn’t sign for us.

Either way, if we didn’t go up, we could do ok without 1,2 and 4. The most important signing for me by far would be Nigel.

Some people on here are very quick to suggest people aren't good enough for us. A player only becomes surplus to requirements when we have at least one better player as a substitute (or a better starting GK). If we want rid of Kasper, we had better work out how we're going to defend in front of Logan. If we get rid of Nugent, we have to start Wood and Vardy every game, and our impact sub (long term) will be Schlupp, who is a winger/full back. And Wes's form is not great, but not appalling either. We've done ok until recently, anyway. I like Moore, and Was, but form aside they're not better players than Morgan. Miquel has played a handful of games - to suggest shipping out our captain in preference is ludicrous. He will have a part to play wherever we are next season.

Fundamentally, the 3 players listed have been in or around our player of the season awards for two-three seasons. Nuge is probably the most replaceable, and his malaise has been longest, but none of the alternatives up front have made really strong cases to replace him. Until he can't get in the match day squad for a sustained period, we need him.

If Kasper, Morgan and Nugent are out of contract soon and all three have lost form, I'd suggest that is more than coincidence, and we can't afford not to sort something out. It's the spine of our team, and you can be sure we won't go up without it...

We've got unproven players in Schlupp (never been given a sustained run upfront) , Hopper, Blyth, Panayiotou and Dodoo.

Plus not to mention Wood (20 goals last year), GTF and Waghorn all not getting games. We've not exactly been firing on all cylinders upfront recently and we are hardly lacking talent or options.

So no then lol

Unbelievable at times, here we have a player in Nugent who has scored 40 goals in 100 games and some are quite happy to sell to a promotion rival, yet Pearson was slaughtered for letting DJ Campbell, who did square root of bugger all for us, join a promotion rival.

One thing is for sure - we can't let him go to the Red Scum. Offer him a 1 year extension with wages dependant on what level we are at

We can't let him go to Forest, King Billy would have him banging the goals in for fun, like he did at Preston.

Nuges is a class act, we just need to play to his strengths more.

That explains a lot.

No wonder the bloke loves himself so much, called the King despite not winning promotion and spending lots of money.

I honestly wouldn't care if Nugent left in January and we signed Ebanks-Blake. He hasn't looked interested for a while, realistically he's not gonna be here next season (if we get promoted he won't be good enough anyway) and we've got youth and depth upfront.

All unproven at this level. None have pulled up any trees.

So you think they could cut it in the prem.

Starting to wonder if our owners are planning a sven type move in the summer even if Nige takes us up.

Could be a very busy summer at the KP.

That really wouldn't surprise me.

People have mentioned in the past that should we go up large amounts of money will be made available. If we're putting together a new squad then you may as well get a new manager in at the same time.

Imagine getting promoted and then sacking the manager. We'd be rightly laughed at by everyone.

Depends upon who you bring in.

Also depends upon who your manager is, QPR & Crystal Palace being 2 recent examples.

I wouldn't be so confident of them finding a good foreign manager. Do you think they'd get a Martinez, Pochettino or Laudrup?

Would not be the first time for us manager situation under MM was a joke.

But with the manager and half the squad out of contract in the summer and no talks what we supposed to think.

They must have worked out a championship budget and a prem budget by now.

So they could offer a  a contract with wages for both divisions it's not rocket science.

Would not supprise me if they knew the new man already.

So certain players get offered 2 cpossible contracts because we want to keep them whichever division we're in.

Certain players only get offered a contract should we not get promoted.

Certain players get offered no contract.

That wouldn't make for a very happy camp would it?

Praps not maybe your right.

But not sounding to happy atm with them all wanting to know.

Anyone itrested in them makes it known to the agent we could have 5 or 6 knocking down NP's door with transfer request's in mid jan.

Who knows what is right Hackney I just think doing nothing aint going to work either.

That's why we have a DOF, he's there to sort it, keep people calm and take the knocks so Pearson doesn't have to deal with it or get blamed by the players. With NFP being in the same position it should/could help them feel more of a team.

However the club deal with it we're going to end up with some upset players but surely every team hoping for promotion or fearing relegation, so that's all of them at this stage of the season, must have at least 3 or 4 first team players whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

Nugent, Schmeichel and Morgan won't be signing for teams they feel have no better chance of promtion than us and which team hoping for promotion would be offering contracts for next season when they don't know which division they'll be playing in, should they get promoted would they really want any of our players?

You may be right Hackney we will see come the end of jan.

Whatever we think won't alter a thing.

This whole throw money at it and we will go up never sat easy with me.

Now we are being fvcked up by it all with a huge bill to repay.
