Where even could we drop 10 points in 15 games?

Recommended Posts

There is a position tracker on Talking Balls. According to that no team has failed to win promotion with over 60 points at this stage of the season. Only one team failed to win promotion who were top. This is over the  last 20 seasons.

When it gets to 10-12 games left I think its time to worry or not. If our position is the same it will mean 2nd position will need twice as many points to be Champions and 3rd about win them all. So we can drop as many points as them..

Who do Burnley etc play next?

We've really just got to concentrate on ourselves and the gap will widen at a quick rate if we put our games to bed.  Over the next few weeks all these fixtures take place:

Whilst our next 4 games are Ipswich (H) Charlton (H) Barnsley (A) Blackpool (H) the teams below us have some of these fixtures coming up whilst we play ours:

Burnley V Forest

QPR V Leeds

Burnley V Derby

Forest V Wigan

Blackburn V Burnley

Brighton V QPR

Reading V Derby

Burnley V Leeds

There is dropped points everywhere in that lot.  Its a big IF i know, but if we were to get 9 or 10 points from 12 in the next 4 games, I figure we would be about 13-14 points clear of 3rd at least.  13-14 in front with what would be 11 to play would be almost unassailable.

I think roughly 80 points going to Turf Moor is what we need to be almost up. I think Burnley A and beyond is a hard period and we could easily falter if we have struggled in this period.

Burnley A then Wigan A could easily go on a little blip then Shef W at home would be major pressure, slip up and we'd have Brighton before Reading A and then QPR..could see a bad run there if confidence is down, then 2 tricky away games follow..who knows what could happen.

We need to make the next 6 count. Anything less than 10 points then Id worry a little because of the run afterwards. get 12 or more we'd be in a great position.

The next 6 we could win 5/6 or 6 in a row tbh. its a very nice run. Even at worst, realistically I could see:

Ipswich(H) Draw.

Charlton(H) Win.

Barnsley(A) Draw.

Blackpool(H) Win.

Blackburn(A) Loss.

Yeovil(H) Win.

Really we need to make it count and go into Burnley A in a position of at least 8 points clear. anything less and we would get nervous.

We could easy lose 3 vs Burnley (a), Reading (a), QPR (h). That's 9.

We won't though so it's ok.

But you are missing the point.  Yes we could drop some games and therefore points.  But you have consider at the same time the chasing teams close enough and it it going to take 2 teams to effectively pick up those 10 points to drop us out of the top 2.  If you really do this exercise you have to analysis their run in and all 4 teams who you may consider still in auto hunt have more difficult runs in  than we do.

So, it is not just a matter of which games we loss points in, but who can catch us!!

It is getting harder now we are down to the last 15 games to see, based on this teams form to see us not get enough and other to overhaul for a top 2 position.

I would put good money on us now to go up via Auto, based on a 15 games season and 8 to 10 point head start and the schedule of those teams involved

Ipswich will be no pushovers on Saturday, expect them to be set up well. Burnley, Wigan and Reading will be tough away from home.

I can see us taking 8/10 points before the Blackburn game given three of them are at home.

Given Burnleys fixtures they will either pick up points over teams close to them, allowing the two of us to pull away. Or they will drop points allowing us to pull away from them.

I think we could easily win the next 5 out of those first 6 games which would put us on 83 points with 9 games to play.

Considering other teams below us will be playing each other everything could look very rosy by the end of March

My god that is scarily exciting.

We could drop 10 pts in the next 4 games. We won't but we could.

Seems to me we need to pick up at least 13 points from the next 6 games, after that we have a spell of 6 trickier games although we do have Sheff We'd in those 6 games, followed by 3 easier games at the end.

I would break it down into-

13 points from the next 6 games taking us to 81

9 points from the following 6 ( I am being pessimistic here) gives us 90 points

5 points from the final 3 gives us 95 points

I think I have been fair with the potential points total and we still get potentially 95 points.

That run could see us cripple some others chances and seal the title.

It looks good but we need to get back on track performance-wise, we've been poor last two games.

True but we got a draw in both whilst stopping Forest getting 2.
