If I do not like a subject in a thread I do not open it or make snide remarks in it.

Yes you do.

Why would you even try and claim that?

In a rather stupid, incredibly drunken mistake at the weekend in Barca, I gave a homeless guy 10 Euros. The cnut wasn't even thankful. Felt like giving him a kicking lol.

He's should be in court for the first sentence charged with something or other.

You are very lucky to be reading this blog post.

There are lies, damn lies, and then absolute whoppers, that is in the latter.

Seriously stuff like this makes me doubt the credibility of DNO entirely.  They should rethink their media strategy.  I am sure they have a media strategist - charities always do.

This thread can be closed I think. It amazes me how some people think it is OK to be patronised and spoken to as if you are dumb. i know I would not like it and I assume most on here would not either.

I have something else to post but I am dubious to do so given the attitude by some. It is an academic review of Politics of the under-Privileged. They have made several recommendations since from Blairs time in office and subsequent governments have mostly ignored them. Is it worth posting it and if so where?

Perhaps you can show us the evidence of anyone being patronised and talked down to? Aren't you always telling us the homeless often have problems with substance abuse, alcoholism and mental health issues? Sounds like a group of people you might offer help to if you want a questionnaire completing.

I also say there are many who do not need help filling out forms. I know the person that wrote the blog and I do not think she would appreciate the insults aimed at her earlier in this thread.

The publication I was looking for needs to be downloaded. It is by the Lankelly Foundation and called The Politics of Disadvantage. We reviewed part of it. Rest next week. As I said is academic so hard reading that is not in simple English. Not sure what length it is unless I download it.

I believe the phrase is "toughen up princess".  You cant have it both ways. Help is available to those who need it- they are not forcing anyone to take the help.  There is no suggestion this is a master plan from the council to manipulate the results of their survey.  In fact the Blog could be taken as quite offensive to those running the survey.

Good point Matt, although of course it would make sense to provide the help in filling out those forms too.  I am sure the many volunteer organisation are very good at it by now.

The citizens advice bureau provide support woth filling out all kinds of forms. Furthermore it is not unreasonable for the council to have considered that homeless people as a general rule may perhaps have a lower intelligence level or learning capability than those amongst the housed population. I dare say that statistically this is true and so making sure everyone has a voice should really only be viewed as a positive.

I've never understood why sitting in a room doing a radio show for the homeless is helping them more than getting up and dragging them off the streets.

It's not hard to find them, when i go out in town I see probably ten homeless people a night, get the volunteers to walk around to bring them in and teach them what to do to gain accommodation with regards to the red tape etc, if they refuse the help then there is nothing you can do, you can't help someone who won't help themselves.

Most of the stuff I see from these organisations it seems like they are more interested in helping themselves than the people they claim.

If a person is not from Leicester they will be refused accommodation.

There is the NSNO scheme set up just before Xmas which 'rounds' people up.

Even if a person is capable of filling out a form they are told to have somebody fill it in for them.

It is not being asked and the assumption that they are thick which is patronising.

I think I'd rather be patronised and have somewhere to live though,

I believe the assumption is they cannot because they have not. If they can, why have they not doing it for themselves?

By extension to this argument if they do not want to be helped, why waste time helping them?

Some of them are like the drunken, ferret wielding, insult throwing Maidstone man. Being homeless is what they do. It's their thing.

Also, if you're not beneath begging for money from complete strangers (often to spend on booze/drugs), constantly asking others for help, how can you get offended when offered help filling in a form? You don't have to accept the help.

Try not to take things too personally. Ken   or maybe you are feeling insulted vicariously , i don't know

I think she makes a point , but it does seem a bit like an impossible task to get the wording right for everyone and not make at least one or two people offended .

We are getting into a right old state of walking on eggshells in case someone is offended. I'm fairly sure sure no offence was intended .

I lost a bit of sympathy with her because she couldn't resist the usual wimmin's dig at men .

don't get too down about it lad  :)
