New car + insurance

Recommended Posts

It got decent mileage but only 90 BHP so wont be very quick but if you dont mind that then be good car to go for as insurance is cheap for ya and if you only put average mileage on it during the time you drive the car you can use that to your advantage when you came to sell in the future.

The dealership offers finance so i would of thought that they would of checked to see if the vehicle was still under a finance with another lender as i dont believe they can put the car on a seperate finance agreement but i could be totally wrong there.

Me personally i think you could find something cheaper with bit more BHP and still be close to the insurance you would pay on the Peugeot.

They are prone to electrical issues but, to be honest, all cars are at risk of some sort of failure. The 207s are nice cars to be fair.

If you want minimum risk of breakdown but also minimum satisfaction or cool, spend £4k on something Japanese.

Yes.

Not the RX8 though take it from me. I drive a Mazda 6 and it drives pretty well

BHP isn't an issue tbh, I'll mostly be using it within 10 miles of Sheffield tbh so pretty sure even comfort comes before speed :P

I think I'm paying for the milage on that one, guy on the phone said it looks fresh out the box as well, hopefully he's not exagerrating. I'm aiming for a bit lower in price but the milage and age go up then which I'm looking to keep down for reliability/resell.

Pentagon will have HPId it. If you ask to see the report, they will show you. It also shows any insurance write-offs etc.

Good to know, I'll mention it regardless. He said he might be able to throw in free tax as well and it's been serviced every year, no major work on it and it comes with 12 months warranty.

Blimey mate, HPI checks.. you have been out of the car buying game for ages. :P Most reputable dealers will sell their cars with an HPI check already done (they won't want to buy in cars or sell them with existing finance still on them).

If they haven't had one done, demand it as part of the haggling over price thing.

Don't buy a car without it having an HPI check done on it.

Ha, did the engine do more than 60,000 miles by any chance?

78000. Car on finance totalling £10500. Had to scrap it and im still paying for it now. Worst decision i ever made buying it. Shame cause it was an ace car to drive whilst it worked.

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that! Having seen them going for such a cheap price, I was going to look at one for my ex as they're lovely cars, especially for the price! Having read several of the reviews however, I could see why they were so cheap.

Very low mileage for year. Don't forget though, if you want to re-sell, buyers go more on age than mileage, in general.

Yeah I know, I'm after a 'newer' one just like everyone else but i'll settle for low miles. It does look in very good nick as well tbf.

Test drive will probably reveal it drives like a tramp.

What I meant was don't let them sell it to you on account of it 'only having done 27,000 miles sir'... its still a 6/7 yr old motor. If that makes sense.

Is that misrepresenting though? If the other insurer gives you a statement of no claims bonus?

Endsleigh for example, do a deal where you get 1 years NCB after 6 months and then 2 years NCB after 18 months.

Of course it's misrepresentation. You've told an insurer you've got a level of no claims bonus you don't actually have. All insurers work on your own disclosures. In the other chap's example he's lied to one insurer to get a certificate showing 5 years no claims and...

Oh I give up.

What happened, did the engine go? If it had done 78k without having a rebuild it's not surprising.

Fair enough. I missed the bit where he made a false claim the first time. If someone made an admin error and gave you 5 years no claims by mistake though, I don't see how you'd be at fault since 'NCB' isn't something material.

I'd probably buy something cheaper if I were you and save your money, or get a Japanese car or a ford or Vauxhall.

What about the Fiesta? Not sure how it compares to a 207 for space but you can fit 5 people in at a squeeze and they are cheap and reliable.

I'm also going to be looking at a couple of Astras and Fiestas. These are all within a 20 mile radius and there genuinely isn't that much variety through autotrader. I'll be visiting some other dealerships as well but I need the car by next weekend and obviously I'm working most days apart from this weekend. Basically got only sat + sun to find one so spending all of my time searching and I'll be going to see as many as pos at the weekend.

No no no. Dont rush take your time. Bar a house it's a big expense.

I looked round a car at a mates work place today. Some woman had brought it up for an alloy wheel repair.

When she left it we discovered the reason the wheel needed a repair was the wheel sat 2 inches further back than the drivers side. The wing was a different colour to the rest of the car. The whole chassis was twisted the doors didnt line up the windscreen had been replaced.

In short the car was a wreck and whoever sold it her had seem her coming. She was devastated when we told her.

I'm definitely going to be thorough. I made a mistake with a car when I was younger and I don't plan to do it again. It's an investment I plan to last a fair few years.

I have to do it quickly but I'm not going to do anything on saturday. Anything I fancy I'll be very cautious with and whatever I think I still plan on walking away and going back on sunday to recheck and buy.

Yea the rotor blade tips had worn so much that there was no compression in the chamber. To get it fixed would of cost in excess of £3000 and the car was prob worth £1500 if lucky so had to scrap it. I had problems with it the year before aswel where i paid £1250 to fix it so in all it has cost me a hell of alot of money.

Shame cause the idea of the Wankel engine is great but would need top grade materials for it to have a life expectancy similar to a regular engine.

I was stupid and didnt research enough into the car.

Im driving a Mazda 6 now which is fine so its not to say that all Mazda cars are bad just the Wankel engine cant perform as required

Oh Well you live and learn.

Yeah, they were supposed to have redesigned it after the RX7 to make it much more durable but it's still a risky option. I'd risk it for an RX7 if I had the money though :P

Meh, many independents or specialists will do the work to the same quality, if not higher, and charge much less. The only thing the dealer FSH will do for you is possibly get you a better price if you don't plan on keeping it too long.
