New car + insurance

Recommended Posts

With this being a topic on insurance, could anyone confirm for me if,with my car insurance being up for renewal next month,I have to declare that I have had my windscreen replaced twice(I paid excess both times) when declaring my no claims discount,or is if just applicable where the insurers have been contacted directly,I'm not planning on staying with my current insurer,so when I go with another insurer, would this need declaring, any advise would be much appriciated.

After posting about how my insurance had gone down to £400 this year, I've just gone and bought myself a BMW 320i Convertible (hardtop) 57plate, and my insurance has more than doubled, at 23 I'm not too surprised! Goodbye lifestyle.

It's a nice car if you want to spend that much money. Won't be particularly cheap to run either. And probably more to insure.

I'm going all over the place today so I'll be seeing and driving a fair few.

This is one that seems like a pretty good deal at the moment. Focus 1.4 2007 with 41,000 miles. Good condition, full history, mot and warranty.

Soooo, I went with the 207. Really seemed the best deal compared to everything else I looked at in the area.

Everything else was either higher in price or considerably higher in milage. Got it down to £4,000 at a dealership and it looks to be in top shape. 6 months tax, mot, full service history, 12 months electrical & mechanical warranty. Felt very nice to drive, comfortable, light steering, silky clutch and very smooth gear box.

The only ones that came close were probably considered more reliable (focus etc) but we're all higher milage and price and less reassuring in terms of aftersale care. Very happy

Sounds like you have got yourself a good deal there mate.

My first car was a Peugeot 206 and I had no problems with it at all. The link that you put on here of it looked really smart.

Yeah, bang on. It's a nice looking car and this one is in perfect condition inside and out, hopefully it's as good on the inside as it is on the out.

Anyone on here got one of the new Volvo V40's? Thinking of getting one in April with a few grand deposit and HP simply because they supposedly do about 80 miles per gallon. Heard the gearbox is notchy but not sure what this really means.

Which other motors can you get about 80 mpg with? Skoda Octavia 1.6TDI is also on the shortlist, supposed to do over 70 per gallon and has better reviews than the V40.

I like good mpg cars too. But a bit wary of new engines. Would be interesting to see how they do for reliability. Generally think if you do loads of miles you have to look at overall cost more than just mpg.

Has the skoda got the same 1.6tdi as the golf bluemotion? If so you can get about 74 to the gallon but you have to drive everywhere at 55 mph.

Otherwise you wont get close.

What do you mean about new engines? All I know about engines is I preferred the old engines because you could get a mate to fix them, but now it's all computer stuff that needs to go to a specialist for repair. That's a bit of a bugar.

I've heard that the Skodas are virtually the same as Golfs with a couple of differences, can't remember what they are though.

Other than wanting good boot space, a snazzy interior and decent mpg I haven't got much of a clue what I'm looking for.

If considering buying a car because of its supposed fuel efficiency check out the Real MPG section on the Honest John website. A lot of manufacturers' claimed MPGs aren't realistic and in my experience it often seems to be the cars marketed on this that disappoint the most

I had the same 1.6 TDi in my Audi A3. Even driving like Anita Roddick, the mpg wouldn't go above 50.

I find it pretty easy to get 60 MPG out of my Scirocco on the 2.0 TDI Bluemotion engine. This is on the daily commute however, weekend's I'll push it a bit more and it'll drop below 50. I'd imagine the 1.6 VW unit you'd get on the Skoda would be about the same.

£450 in insurance also which is lovely.

Hi, I wonder if you guys can help me.

I'm 28 and have just passed my test and am looking at insurance for the first time.

I have had a look one mentions something about having a black box in your car? Is this a thing that all insurers are offering in order to reduce premiums or is it only a few?

Will every insurer tell me this is the only way to get cheaper insurance?

Will another insurer be just as 'cheap' without one of these?

They seem a bit Big Brother to me, even though I plan to be a careful driver with low milage.
