isleofwightfox Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 As fixtures have been moved around for TV it's not as simple as it sometimes is to discern which game is our 'game in hand'. I know that it shouldn't really matter - mathematically we have one extra game and it doesn't matter when it is - but I thought I would try to work it out. I want to rule QPR and Derby out of this consideration because i think we will comfortably pick up 9-10 points in the remaining fixtures. Basically both City and Burnley will have an equal number of games remaining at the end of the 8th April. At that point we will have played Wigan (A), Sheff Wed (H), and Brighton (H). Burnley will have played Watford (A) and Barnsley (A). If we get a win or draw on Saturday (should be achievable with Trippier, Ings and Marney hopefully missing) all we need to do is get equal or greater points by April 8th and we will be in a really solid position with the knowledge that Burnley also have a tricky visit from Wigan and a last day of the season trek down to Reading to come. I know that some of that last paragraph is really obvious, but I think the boys need to acknowledge two things before Saturday: the fact that the game in hand does not equate to even a single point (yet), and the fact that a loss would undo our small goal difference advantage. Personally, I think we will beat Burnley on Sat and be allowed to twerk all the way to the title - but I wanted to post these thoughts to see what you guys all think.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Our game in hand is Wigan, as that was the one that was postponed because of their cup run.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 What? The Wigan game was postponed. It is the the game we wouldn't be playing normally, and the game we are playing when others aren't. So it our game in hand.
Munshi Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 It's Wigan, next Tuesday, at 19:45, at the DW stadium, in Wigan.
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Please never ever use "twerk" and "title" in the same sentence again. Apart from that I agree, if we are level or better than Burnley going into the last three games, we should have enough to win the title.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 I know that some of that last paragraph is really obvious, but I think the boys need to acknowledge two things before Saturday: the fact that the game in hand does not equate to even a single point (yet), and the fact that a loss would undo our small goal difference advantage. I think the "boys" as you put it probably already realise they have no points from the game in hand yet (Wigan) and also understand how the goal difference system works. Or am I stating the obvious?
kingcarr21 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Dont quite understand the logic Our game in hand is Wigan and nobody else.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Is our game in hand against Wigan? No I think it's against Doncaster in May, last game of the season cos no one else plays that day, am I right?
