ceredigion Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 Having had the afternoon off work, I could think of no better way of spending it than to work out how many club records and sequences we are in with a chance of equalling or beating by the end of the season. The list isn't exhaustive and if I've missed something, please add it on Considering we've been a league club uninterruptedly since 1894, I think the number of records which could fall between now and the last game of the season is very impressive. So for all you Stattos out there, here goes. 1 - League games unbeaten: 23 (League One 01/11/08 - 07/03/09). We are currently on a 20 match unbeaten league run, so if we avoid defeat in the next 4 games, we can beat this record at the home game with QPR. 2 - Games unbeaten in all competitions: 17 (06/12/24 - 28/02/25). We are currently on a 15 match unbeaten run since our last defeat against Stoke in the FA Cup on 04/01/14, so if we avoid defeat in the next 3 games, we can beat this record at the away game with Reading. 3 - Most league wins in a season: 27 League One 2008/09. We currently have 26 wins this season, so we can beat this record with 2 wins out of our last 7 games. 4 - Most home league wins in a season: 16 in 1928/29 and 2002/03. We currently have 14 home wins this season, so we can beat this record if we win 3 out of 4 remaining home games. 5 - Most away league wins in a season: 14 League One (2008/09). We currently have 12 away wins this season, so we can beat this record if we win our 3 remaining away games. 6 - Most points in a season: 96 League One (2008/09). We currently have 86 points, so we can beat this record if we get 11 out of the 21 points still available to us. 7 - Consecutive league games scored in: 31 (12/11/32 - 28/08/33). We have scored in all of our last 24 league games, so we can equal this record if we score in all our remaining games and beat it if we score on the opening game of next season. It is also worth pointing out that this team has already established a new record for consecutive league wins (9) and for unbeaten away matches (10 and counting) this season. It will be a tall order to break all of the above records but I can certainly see some of them going. I hope you all think I have spent my afternoon off wisely and productively.
Dan Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 This has all come in a season where expectations were the lowest they've been for years. Football. **** me.
Guest MattP Posted 4 April 2014 Posted 4 April 2014 8. Most points gained for a team who had some of their own fans tipping them for relegation at the start of the year. I assume that was broken a while back.
