Oasisedup Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Morning all, I suppose the circumstances of our promotion made the whole experience slightly surreal for everyone at the weekend. But, we will be playing in the Premier League next season. I thought it would be interesting to compare the current side with those of our last two Premier League-promotion-winning sides; those being the 1996 play-off winners under Sir M O'N and the team that came runners-up to Pompey in 2003 under Micky Adams. The sides had similar strength and weaknesses, meaning completing a Promotion-Winning XI involved some tough calls - no place for Wes Morgan but Lloyd Dyer made it, Have a read here and let me know your thoughts: http://inbignigewetrust.blogspot.co.uk/
AKCJ Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Schmeichel Grayson Walsh Elliot Stewart Knockaert Izzet Drinkwater Mahrez Vardy Dickov
bovril Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Schmeichel Grayson Walsh Elliot Stewart Knockaert Izzet Drinkwater Mahrez Vardy Dickov You can't leave Lennon and Heskey out, for me. Apart from that it looks ok.
bovril Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Maybe I'd go 352 Walker Walsh Elliott Grayson Knockaert Parker Lennon Izzet Mahrez Heskey Dickov (edited to put Walker in over Kasper)
danny. Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 The link doesn't work for me - can someone explain the rationale behind the teams being posted?
bovril Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 The link doesn't work for me - can someone explain the rationale behind the teams being posted? I guess pick an XI from the last three promotion winning seasons.
Oasisedup Posted 12 April 2014 Author Posted 12 April 2014 This was the team I chose Sorry boys - link should work now http://inbignigewetrust.blogspot.co.uk/
MattGamble92 Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Schmeichel De Laet Moore Walsh Schlupp Knockaert Izzet Drinkwater Dyer Vardy Heskey

dorsetboy Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Although mahrez looks to have potential I would easy put guppy ahead of him that man could seriously cross a ball and finish

Tielemans63 Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 How the feck hasn't Stevie Claridge had a mention yet? Scored one of the most famous promotion-winning goals in our history. Who cares if he didn't get 20 that season? He should be in for THAT goal.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Walker De Laet Walsh Elliott Whitlow Izzet Lennon Parker Mahrez Vardy Heskey
FoxTrott Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Mahrez has only played 14 games for us, is that really enough to judge?!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 You can't leave Lennon and Heskey out, for me. Apart from that it looks ok. Agreed.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Lennon is the best "modern era" midfielder we have ever had No team would be complete without him tbf
lcfcjw16 Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Shmeichel De laet Wasyl Walsh Schlupp Knockaert Drinkwater Izzet Mahrez Heskey Vardy
AKCJ Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 You can't leave Lennon and Heskey out, for me. Apart from that it looks ok. Lennon played a handful of games in the 96 season. Drinkwater has been player of the year this season and Izzet was player of the year in the 03 season. For me, Heskey in the 96 season wasn't as good for us as he was in the PL. Dickov and Vardy were/are among the first few names on the teamsheet in their seasons.
