Dacia cars

Anyone own one? Looking for a new family car and they are miles cheaper than anyone else. Owned by Renault so can't be that bad. I know they aren't fast and they aren't cool but I don't really care about that, just need to get from A to B.

Yeah the stepway is what I'm looking at. It seems like a pretty bang average make to be honest, solid and reliable without being flashy. For the price difference I think they look a bargain and can't see anything wrong with them. Not had a test drive yet though so could still change my mind! Just wondered if anyone had one.

I think the price difference may be down to brand, a bit like kiss were cheap a few years ago.

I need something cheap to run that is going to be reliable and is a 'family car'. The bonus of this is you can get a 5 yr warranty, **** all tax and cheap insurance. It ain't fast but that tends to be a good thing for me! I need the car to slow me down as I tend to go for it abit!

Im not sure your kids will let you drop them off at school in this 'family car'. Just outside the shop please dad, ill walk the rest of the way.

I'm not sure if they are still as competitively priced as they were a few years ago but KIAs always looked a decent proposition in terms of bang for your buck.

If I were you I'd steer well clear of Renault-engined if you value reliability, the experience I had with my Megane put me off cars altogether and I know several people who've owned 2-5 year old Renaults that have had no end of problems with them. I did look at the Dacia range as to be fair they are very fairly priced, but maybe read some professional and user reviews first, and make sure any known problems are covered by the warranty/extended warranty.

Dacia are obviously bought a lot over here.

The prices are incredible and on value for money they easily beat others in all reviews.

Seem a good buy on a budget.

Surprising.

I found the Megane to be a very comfortable, powerful car. One of the best I'd ever owned.

Oh hell yes it was comfortable, and the 106bhp DCi I owned had a great midrange surge, but the EGR valve blew out (£500), turbo blew out (£950 just for a refurbishment), and had a whole host of other problems with electric windows, stereo, electric sunroof... All of that shit occurred in the 11 months I owned it and just 4,000 miles of regular driving. It was mint when I bought it but even though I fixed most of the problems I just couldn't trust and sold it for a sizeable loss. Felt massive relief when it finally sold, I would never have a Renault again. And if I was to inherit one I'd take it to the crusher so it didn't screw anyone else over. Absolutely terrible build quality.

Cheers FIF, that's my general thinking. Have never had a problem with Renaults either! Obviously they will never beat the Renault 5 as that was their peak but they always seemed ok!

Same, I had a lot of issues with my Renault, maybe I was unlucky. Nearly purchased a Dacia, good value for money, but it's a poor mans renualt, hence put me off

I bought a Dacia New Logan MCV and I'm very happy with it. Good price, very spacious, 5 year warranty, low cost, ... I don't need or want an expensive car, like you say: just need to get from A to B. If you like to spend your money on something reliable, Dacia is a good option.
