Probably used a couple of mowers, a smaller one for the thinner stripes, the grass will be cut the same height and the pattern is created by mowing / rolling in different directions. Its the way the light reflects off the grass. If your at one end of the ground looking down a lighter shaded stripe then that same stripe will be the darker stripe to a person looking from the opposite end.
