Seeing Leicester train?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Hope you can help. I want to arrange a surprise trip for my Leicester obsessed six year old son over the summer - to try and get some autographs, meet some of his heroes, see a bit of training etc. We've been to plenty of games but never even seen the training ground, and don't live close-by.

I've had a look on the website and on here, but can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have any idea if it is possible, or are we just better off going to a couple of pre-season friendlies?

Cheers

Belvoir Drive, but I doubt you are allowed past the gates, I'm sure they'd stop and sign stuff for you but I highly doubt you're allowed to go and stand pitch side to see them train.

You never know they might have an open training session when they're all back, at the stadium like a few seasons ago, although that is the only one I can remember in recent times.

How things change. When we were kids we would go and watch them train, leaning on the metal rails watching them. There would always be some old boy walking his dog, and we would sometimes fetch the balls for them, I can remember mike newell taking the piss out of my mate for cocking up his passes to him. We also used to get to interview the players for the school mag without much effort.

Actually for all I know you may well still be able to just wander in and watch. I can't see there being any problem with it.

pearson stopped anyone non-official watching in his first spell pretty sure, dunno if he's still rolling with that policy these days

My girlfriend used to live on Belvoir Drive so I used to wander in and watch them train quite often - even used to wander into the indoor area and watch the youth team a few times.

Then around 5(?) years ago I tried to go in through the main training ground entrance and there was a chap in a tracksuit stopping the public - said it was to do with strategy and keeping tactics secret, etc. Sign of the times but a shame none the less.

I used to go up to the University grounds in Oadby in July during the 1980s and they'd all be having their pre-season training sessions up there.  Anyone could go and watch, sit with them etc.  I remember sitting having a chat with Andy Feeley and Mark Venus before I wandered off to finish playing tennis with my brother and they wandered back to training - how different things were back then!

You've got no chance of watching them train. The gate is manned 24/7 and no unauthorised visitors are allowed in. For all our staff know you could be a scout and taking your son as an excuse.

Now that doesn't seem the case on here but how are they to know that?

Your best chance of getting autographs is after a game.

Also I'm lead to believe they're going away on two separate trips so won't be at the training ground all that much over pre-season. Think they start back July 7.

Surely if you are outside the gates, they'd stop and sign stuff on the way out of training for a kid?

Saying that, you'd be milling around all morning not knowing when they'd actually leave.

Can't speak for myself because that's something that I've never done. Like you say, you'd think they'd also but during pre-season you can never be sure when they're gonna be done.
