Bellend Sebastian Posted 23 June 2014 Posted 23 June 2014 New kittens are a pain in the arse but if they've had the snip they might have calmed down a bit. They can be quite destructive, so if you've got expensive furniture it might be worth putting throws over settees etc. A scratching post helps but you've got to train them to use it - everytime they scratch something just pick them up and put their paws on the post, and they'll soon get the idea. Bear in mind that kittens are into everything, so be prepared for them exploring. They generally will leap into a room or cupboard before they have a clue what's in there. A mate's kitchen ended up reeking of cat piss because there was a previously unnoticed gap in the plinths that the kittens would sneak into and do their business - nice. As your kitties are microchipped you could, if you're prepared to spend the money, get a microchip operated catflap. Main advantage of these is that you don't have to put a magnet key on a collar or anything like that. Vets always seem to advise no collars, and my cat's fur somehow got all caught up in her 'safety' collar (which is supposed to come off easily) and has never grown back, poor thing

Insurance already in the process of being sorted. Got discount on multipet which is good. Fortunately everything is well sealed in the area theyl be at first, so should be unlikely to get nasty surprises in small corners. Going to have several litter trays too. Hopefully theyl get the hang quickly, the cat protection said they were reasonably good at using the tray there, so hopefully that will continue. Very excited!

Don't expect any of the above, with the exception of the cats, to be alive though. Not always; sometimes the gifts are still alive so they're nice and fresh for you. My parents' cat brought them in a mouse that was still alive but pretty out of it. While they were figuring out how to dump it outside, it came-to and ran behind the washing machine, leaving a trail of blood. In the morning they moved the washing machine out of the way and fished the now bled-out mouse of there.

Foxhateram Posted 28 June 2014 Author Posted 28 June 2014 Good first day with them, they won't stay in the area we had hoped though, had to work hard to find a way to keep them in. Our contraption seems to be working for now. They are quite cuddly when tired which is cool. They seem to have enjoyed today. They are a lot more of a handful than we originally expected though.

I thought cat's were independant creatures?, not this one, she wants constant attention wants to be stroked all the time, as I type this shes lying on my lap on her back with her legs up in the air (ooo er missus), i didn't think cats liked their bellies stroked? but this one loves it, she purs constantly....ooops she's just fell off. Not a fan of all that hair...especially on my clothes. Never really understood the reason people have pets unless they are lonely. Perhaps its because the cat is anxious about being in a new place, my back garden is next to a huge field but she's not interested, everytime I move she's there right next to me. Maybe some other cat owners could give me advice, is this normal for a cat? Oh great know she's taken up home on my vinyl shelf, that isnt happening. She's a beautiful cat but roll on Thursday..
