kingcarr21 Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 World Cup 2014: Cameroon investigates match-fixing claims Cameroon officials are to investigate claims that seven of their players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup in Brazil. The ethics committee of the African country's football federation will look at allegations of "fraud" by "seven bad apples" in their three group games. The allegations have been made in a German news magazine Der Spiegel by a convicted match fixer from Singapore. Cameroon lost all their Group A games, including a 4-0 defeat by Croatia. The Indomitable Lions had Alex Song sent off for lashing out at Mario Mandzukic in that game, while team-mates Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Benjamin Moukandjo clashed late on in the game. Highlights: Cameroon 0-4 Croatia The allegations were made by convicted football match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal, who was detained by police in Finland in April on an international arrest warrant. In a discussion with Der Spiegel, the Singaporean correctly forecast the result with Croatia and that a player would be sent off. A statement from Cameroon's FA read: "Recent allegations of fraud around Cameroon's 2014 Fifa World Cup three preliminary games, especially Cameroon versus Croatia, as well of the 'existence of seven bad apples [in our national team]' do not reflect the values and principles promoted by our administration, in line with Fifa's code of conduct and the ethics of our nation. "We are strongly committed to employ all means necessary to resolve this disruptive matter in the shortest delays." Fifa did not comment on whether it was looking into the issue as football's world governing body did not want to "compromise any possible investigations". It did, however, add: "Speaking generally, the integrity of the game is a top priority for Fifa and as such we take any allegations of match manipulation very seriously." A closer look at the match fixerWilson Raj Perumal from Singapore is a convicted match fixer In a book published in April, Perumal claims he arranged for players from one team at the Beijing Olympics to ensure their side took the kick-off in two separate matches The book also alleges Perumal influenced qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa Cameroon's build up to the tournament in Brazil was marred by the players refusing to board a plane to Brazil until a dispute over bonus payments had been settled. A financial package was eventually agreed with Cameroon's football federation, Fecafoot, but the squad's journey to the World Cup had been delayed for almost a day. They started the tournament with a 1-0 defeat by Mexico prior to the loss to Croatia and being beaten 4-1 by hosts Brazil. "Some players behaved very badly, and that's why we have conceded four goals," Cameroon head coach Volker Finke told French newspaper L'Equipe after the Croatia defeat. "I know that it is difficult to play with 10 men, but that is not a reason to lose it to this point. "The game was balanced until the red card. The Croatians were more clinical in front of goal, but Cameroon also had chances to score. "The behaviour of some of the players is really not satisfactory. Even when we were 11-a-side, it was not acceptable." Fellow African nation Ghana is also involved in allegations over corruption. The country's Football Association has called in the police to investigate the claims, although the GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi is to sue the Daily Telegraph newspaper over its claim he agreed for the national team to play in matches others were preparing to fix.
kingcarr21 Posted 1 July 2014 Author Posted 1 July 2014 So now after Ghana we have another scandal with Cameroon. Would explain the ridiculous elbow from Alex Song. Makes you wonder how many years we've had match fixing going on.
Haydos Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Read a bit about this the other day. Apparently this guy has a book out soon/recently and everything is just 'alleged'.Also, how likely is it that Song would be involved? He's played for Barca and Arsenal, must be worth a fair wad. Obviously there could be non-financial reasons for this but seems a bit convenient. Will be interested to see if it has any legs.

It would be crazy to think that anyone would jeopardise a multi million pound career as a football at the top level for more money, what they earn is disgusting enough, but to then think that some players are so greedy to do this for more money is just insane, most of the Cameroon squad play in Europe for decent clubs, they are surely earning enough money to not have to do this.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 I wouldn't be surprised if Assou Ekotu was somehow involved. He looks shifty at the best of times! I remember when he got his red card against us thinking at the time that he wasn't slightly bothered that he got it. Looked like he even wanted it. Bet there was a few grand in that for him!

There's corruption in most wealthy industries, why not football? The rich are greedy, it's nothing new. It beggars belief if anything comes of this and it is money related. They could have received threats upon their families for example so I'm not going to jump to conclusions yet. It's still corruption at the end of the day though.

Good point think he could have been sent off a couple of times before he was too.

Did you not see the Ghana players last week? I don't believe it anyway, Cameroon are that shit you wouldnt need to fix it for them to lose anyway.
kingcarr21 Posted 1 July 2014 Author Posted 1 July 2014 wasnt it the Croatia game Assou Ekotto put his head against a team mate near the end of the game? Wouldnt surprise me if he was involved in fixing it so the score was 4-0 and he went mad at his team mate for almost conceding a 5th

I'll let you be your own judge

Wouldnt surprise me if he was involved in fixing it so the score was 4-0 and he went mad at his team mate for almost conceding a 5th He should have been going even more mad at Webo then who hit the crossbar for Cameroon, that would have fcuked his bet. Not to mention how did he also get the Croatians to miss so many chances to make it 5?

Not to mention how did he also get the Croatians to miss so many chances to make it 5? i would assume that the bet was for 4 or more goals so a 5th wouldnt of mattered? Assou Ekotto prob went mad cause hes a cvnt. Unless the Croatians were in on it aswel.
Fox92 Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 But Fifa want more African teams in the competition Hate all this. Match fixing, makes you sick.
Haydos Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 There is literally just speculation from a guy who has a book out, nothing more, unless anyone can show me any investigation results or any other articles?
MooseBreath Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Yeah I'm calling bullwhip on this one. You heard me, bullwhip.
Zapp Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 There can only be one reason for some of these guys to match fix, and that would be with a threat to them or their family the money they earn domestically is above and beyond what they would earn for a match fix The ones I feel sorry for is the team mates & fans who are playing/watching with genuine hopes and dreams, ignorant to the fact some of their own side don't even want them to win.
fazzyfox Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Their keeper has said that he just wants to focus on their forthcoming friendly, an exciting three all draw with Ghana.
Guest MattP Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 the money they earn domestically is above and beyond what they would earn for a match fix It's Africans, their greed is often beyond any logical mind. We had Asamoah Gyan last week refusing to play the final group game last week unless his $150k appearance bonus was flown to him in cash. And this is a man who moved to to Dubai in the prime of his career so he could earn $11million a year.
ScouseFox Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 i'd be amazed if anyone fixed shit at any level from amateur to world cup to do with scores or results. it'd be either obvious or incredibly hard to pull off, plus the odds wouldn't be great. compare that to things like anytime own goals, first goal kicks, throw ins & corners and anything to do with cards that are all much bigger odds and much easier to "hide" in a game then you'd have to be a retard to try and fix a result. not saying it's true but for alex song to fix a whole match he'd need 11 (preferably 22 or more) people to be in on it, and to be in for a serious financial gain he'd need to stake a suspect amount on cameroon to lose. for him to be sent off he'd need him and him alone involved, just one "crazy moment" and he'd not need to arouse suspicion with a ridiculous bet on a foreign exchange. doubt any of it's true anyway, mind.

Basically just said he doesn't really care about football and he's only interested in the money. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/6126401/assou-ekotto-its-just-a-job
