ozleicester Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 16/20 Stupid questions more about what to do in the event of crash etc.. than how to drive. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/road-rules-theory-test-quiz.asp - WA's tests 29/30
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 16/20 Stupid questions more about what to do in the event of crash etc.. than how to drive. That's what the practical bit's for.
Thracian Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Surprised there is a driving test anymore. There's so much control now you can hardly go wrong, yet so many people don't seem to bother getting a licence judging by the way they drive, especially at weekends.
Rincewind Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 I flunked it. 20/30. I do not drive though. I did the Aussie one above.11/20 on the first one. Started off well got mostly the middle ones wrong after 6 or 7
BoneDog Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 100%, which is virtually the same as I got on both occasions I did the theory test in real life and also on the hazard perception one that they make you do now. Had my first license revoked so retook it all recently and nearly got the joint world record on the practical test, but unfairly (imo) received one minor fault. Robbed of glory.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Over the weekend we were talking about the difference in tests in the UK to the USA. My sister has an automatic and my brother was using it to transport people. We found out by my nephews googling that the reason why they start so yoing in the US is that the test consists of driving around a carpark with cones. The majority of cars are auto and from what was found out an American license is not valid in the UK We summised that the US roads are either hundreds of miles long or towns so there is less need for gear changes. Perhaps an US Fox can confirm or refute this. I think I would have been better in an auto. My last lessons was in one then I was in a gear for my last lesson after which I was advised to give up because of co ordination problems. At least I am still alive and have not wrapped a car round a tree. I had to get a US license to be able to get a bank account etc. The test was driving an automatic in a car park around cones. I am really surprised more American's don't die on the roads. The roads are usually straight and consist of enough lanes. Plus the speed limits are quite a bit lower in many states. People don't go into towns, they drive along the 'freeway' to the nearest shopping mall, take forever to park badly, even though their driving test was essentially learning how to park.

They have a higher death rate than us, apparently. I assumed it would be about the same, but there you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate Nice to see that the UK has amongst the safest roads in the world still. Hurray for us
broughtonblue Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Think another relevant question should be Could you pass your practical test again? This is my 30th year of driving and i consider myself a good driver, but obviously bad habits have set in over the years so would be interesting to see if I could still pass. Do you still get taught to have your hands in the 10 to 2 position and feed the wheel through your hands? Obviously don't do that now so could be picked up on that and similar things
Beliall Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 as far as i can tell, you have to prop a mobile phone up between you neck and shoulder while flicking the v's
ADK Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 There were loads of crashed cars everywhere last time I went to America. Not sure why auto's are so popular over there. Got 19/20, answered one of the questions rather stupidly. Think I got 35/35 when I did my theory. 90% of the questions are common sense. The other 10% you need to learn.

Do you still get taught to have your hands in the 10 to 2 position and feed the wheel through your hands? Obviously don't do that now so could be picked up on that and similar things I did a mock theory test a few weeks ago because a work colleague was asking in anticipation of his about the difficulties of passing and whether i could do it. I didnt think id be still as good as i was because my theory test was 30 or 35 questions and a hazard perception, these days its 50 and i believe the hazard perception has a tougher pass mark, but i was good with both. I highly doubt i would pass the practical element of the test. Ive been passed about 10 years, id have numerous bad habits even though im not aware of them. And my parallel park would be crap.
Bayfox Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 ****ing hope so. Took me 5 mins to answer 35 questions. Knowing I guessed at 2. Guessed wrong as well. 33 out of 35. Will give the test ago later and edit my post accordingly.
