ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Frank Sinclair was relatively big money for us at the time. Matty Elliott for £1.6m from the level he came from was risky but we all know how ridiculously good value that turned out to be! Eadie was quality when fit too.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 £1.25m, now he was a good player. A Mark Draper is what this current team needs. We have the engine in Drinky and James but Draper was so slick at getting forward and slipping the ball to an on-running striker. Cultured player.
Matt Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Matt Jones and Eadie were good just ****ed over by injury. Matt Jones was quality would have been a brilliant player was gutted to see his career ****ed by injury.
MrSpaM Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 How many massive money signings actually work out for clubs anyway? I bet the percentage is pretty low. I can name countless ridiculous money signings in the premiership that have ended up just warming the bench.
Fox Ulike Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/page/recordtransfers.php For those who are interested in a full list rather than a list of just those signings that didn't work out. Interesting to see. Not many of those players really went on to justify their transfer fees. This backs up Pearson's approach of not wanting to spend too much on players. It seems that for clubs of Leicester's stature most Premiership 'stars' are made, not purchased. Pearson's approach seems to be to create an environment which allows talented young players to learn and develop, and become "Premiership quality".
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Ulloa for £7 million will be the next Akinbadbuy if it goes through. Care to elaborate on this depressingly dismissive post or are you just being a minty negative pumper for the sake of it? I can understand people having reservations (especially for the fee), and will read always read criticism if it's well reasoned and eloquently put, but posts like the above offer nothing.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Roger Davies was the most significant flop to me. I expected bags of goals from him, and he never performed for us at all, as far as I can remember. Matt Gillies team for was the cheapest (even in those days), and best side we have ever had.
foxoffderby Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 A Mark Draper is what this current team needs. Cultured player. yep was going to say Draper was a marque signing under Little. Was a one man team that season in the top flight
foxaholic Posted 20 July 2014 Posted 20 July 2014 I think it's more that we tend to be slightly conservative with even our bigger money signings - for example, settling for Beckford at around £3m when we were looking at the likes of Jelavic and Long. Akinbiyi and Mills perhaps aside, we have spent far less on transfer fees historically than most other clubs of our size in my opinion. Lenny Glover was a world record for a winger
