Thomas_Kirkup Posted 4 August 2014 Posted 4 August 2014 In Honour of the 100 year anniversary of WWI. Pompey's new kit contains the names of all the soldiers of the 14th and the 15th battalions who died during the great war (1,400 in total). Most of the 14th and 15th battalions volunteered at Fratton Park. The shirt uses the original badge design from 1914. A massive thumbs up for portsmouth for coming up with this idea. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/news/article/pompey-remember-fallen-with-new-home-kit-1801396.aspx
SystonFox Posted 4 August 2014 Posted 4 August 2014 Great gesture.Agree with this but Sondico? No need for it in today's game #AMF
Finnegan Posted 4 August 2014 Posted 4 August 2014 Hm, I know it's sad to be that cynical but I can't help feeling like they're cashing in a little or something hugely tragic. It'd probably make me feel better if they were donating per shirt sold to the RBL or something.
theessexfox Posted 4 August 2014 Posted 4 August 2014 Doesn't quite feel right with jobsite.co.uk also on the shirt..
Onions Posted 4 August 2014 Posted 4 August 2014 Amazing idea. Anyone thinking it's for anything other than remembering them doesn't know anything about Portsmouth.
Voll Blau Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Hm, I know it's sad to be that cynical but I can't help feeling like they're cashing in a little or something hugely tragic. Fox92 Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 It's Portsmouth, not Manchester City. I don't think they can afford to remove the sponsor. It's a great gesture either way, they didn't have to do it.
ADK Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 I think a one off with no sponsors would have worked better.
Jordan Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 How are Portsmouth meant to be paying the rest of David Nugent's outstanding wages without selling shirt sponsorship?
whetstonefox Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Think it is just another reminder of what football can do. Like us with the helicopter for the rememberance game each year, and the poppy on the shirt which was also a Leicester first, no doubt other clubs do things we are not aware of. Fact the shirt has already sold out tells you what the fans think, and anything that puts football in a positive light has to be a good thing.
