There's a Swiss ice hockey player by the name of Luca Cunti.

Honest.

There's also another one called Adrian Wichser, a pun you'll only understand if you know what "wichsen" means.

From an interview with The Guardian:

"My poor brother. He has to go around and introduce himself as Cornelius to everyone now. It's stupid. Cock is just a nickname in Holland, a short version of his name. I mean, what's so funny about that? It's his name and my other brother's name is Dick. This is normal in Holland."

I still think Shane Long's parents made a very fatal decision upon his birth.

What, by not naming him Dix? lol

Schweinsteiger = pig farmer, not pig mounter.

I'm half German and have never heard the word Steiger for a farmer. I guess pig minder would be more correct. Pig mounter would be something like Schweinebesteiger.

"Steig" is an old German synonym for a stable. The family name is derived from and a combination of place & activity.

Back in the days, it indicated that on one's property, wild boars were roaming the area.

In today's context, however, a rather unfortunate family name.
