Leicester City are set to unveil Esteban Cambiasso as their latest signing ahead of their Premier League opener vs Everton on Saturday. The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfield general was once said to be linked with Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Aston Villa however never agreed a deal. It is now understood that the 33-year-old Argentine will be unveiled as The Foxes marquee signing of the summer.

Cambiasso has always had ambitions to play in the Premier League, and after approximately two weeks of negotiations he is set to join up with Nigel Pearson’s men as they embark upon the top flight of English football for the first time in a decade. Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Aston Villa failed to attract the world-class star in earlier attempts, but now it seems that we will finally welcome the experienced midfielder to the Premier League.

What a sensational coup for Leicester City. Cambiasso was understood to have passed an official club medical in London prior to finalising a deal with club officials.

As I said, gentlemen, it's not what you know ..........

That's 10 hrs + old and written by first4lcfc.

You may as well print that out and stick it on the fridge with the other kids crayon drawings.

Another with a hang up about fees.

It's not for this thread but seriously, a marquee signing is not a player who has been touted around prem clubs with no takers. If he signs for us ahead of Valencia and a couple of average Italian sides then great. I'm sure he will do well as we need someone with his class and experience it that area. Clearly, the top half PL clubs feel they don't need him.

Anyone who thinks Esteban Cambiasso is not marquee needs a good hard look in the mirror.

He's littered with trophys and is still up there with Steven Gerrard in the holding role in midfield. The biggest star Leicester have signed ever.

Seems marquee to me.

the only marquee I want to see at leicester is GTFs shirt.

I wont believe a word of it until he's spotted in Morrisons. He certainly wasn't there last night. I went up and down those aisles loads of times .

Glad I had my Sun vouchers with me otherwise it would have been a complete waste of time.

Surely a 34 year old on a free can't be a 'marquee signing'?

It may well turn out to be a coup but 'marquee'???

A well known player in world football that has played at the very top of European football for most of his career, won numerous of awards and trophys throughout his career and represented his country more than 50 times.

Seems marquee to me.

Hilton to Marriott to Holiday Inn - we must really want him.

Some lad on the Watford forum ITK claiming that it would have been done last week but Cambiasso and his entourage were less than impressed with buffet provided by the club. Apparently the lack of chorizo was an issue

My source close to a family member of a friend of someone whose kid works in the shop said they were disgusted by Asterix's "tapas" puns.

Who is this Chorizo you speak of another player we are signing?

Alright, on reflection I'll retract my original statement (makalele, deschamps were very effective in this PL role in their thirties and cambiasso's performances over the years in an inter shirt (especially in their champions league season) have been more than notable), although if we start very badly, perhaps another tent will need to be erected before August 31st!

Have you seen the players that they already have?

That's a stupid argument.

The point I'm making is that it doesn't matter whether a player is on a free or £10m concerning whether he is good for us or not. If he's better than someone else alrady in the squad or if we have a position that needs bolstering then he is good for us.

He would be a great signing for us and costing £10m wouldn't make him a better signing - you're looking through dollar eyes.

Same for Ulloa or Slimani - the price doesn't change their level of skill nor our needs.

FIF, i wasnt arguing if he would be good for us - i stated he would be. i was merely querying if he was still able to play at a level/standard to be called 'marquee'.  (and after further thought i think he may well be).
