JIMMYWILLIS Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Quick search didn't locate one. Is there one already? I need to kick start my activities and get back in the gym etc.
Nalis Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Great minds and all that, I was gonna start one up a few weeks ago. What are you trying to achieve? Weight loss/bulking up/general improved fitness? Personally I have gone to the shitter in terms on exercise. My local Fitness First is packed all the time so I use it as a convenient excuse not to go as often.
VLC86 Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Yep exactly the way to go about getting fit, sit infront of a computer searching the internet for hours rather than getting off your arse and going for a run. Good work!
JIMMYWILLIS Posted 16 September 2014 Author Posted 16 September 2014 Started a job 18 months ago that means a lot of time in London or travelling abroad. Lost the time for the gym Need to lose weight and improve fitness. I kick started last time using a free pullout from men's health which was 15 min circuits without equipment (so can do at home). Need to get into it again. And stop drinking and eating crap!! Started this week at 14.6 so will try and use this thread to motivate me!!

Start off by going for short runs, press ups, sit ups or get yourself along to a boot camp type thing if you want to exercise as part of a group. Regarding eating, download my fitness pal which is a great way to watch the calorie intake. Through this, a simple routine at the gym and playing football I lost nearly 2 stone in probably 3 months.
JIMMYWILLIS Posted 16 September 2014 Author Posted 16 September 2014 I thought you were aiming it at the other poster anyway When I did well last time it was through 1 mile runs and weights etc. longer runs had no effect
Sir Fynwy Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 I travel a lot for business but still manage to keep up my running, lots of hotels will have running route maps or be able to give advice, I'm in a running club but miss a lot of their sessions, do try to make as many Leicester Road Race League races as possible and I'll be running my second half marathon of the year on 28th. Being flexible about what you do and not relying on a gym will probably work out better if you travel.
JIMMYWILLIS Posted 16 September 2014 Author Posted 16 September 2014 Stop with the advice that shows me up as being lazy...ha ha Forgot to say I also have 4 kids aged 3-14 who drain my spare time
Nalis Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 I personally think a combination of weight training/circuits and cardio is the way to go for weight loss. Maybe sign up for an even happening in 6 months time (mudder / marathon relay, etc) as use that as a goal. Also, make sure you you're getting 8 hrs sleep. You are right tho, its finding the time which is a pain...
Fox in the North Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 Diet is key for me, I've just tweaked it and it's working. I'm doing my best to avoid bread and savoury snacks etc as they are my key weaknesses. Combined it with swimming 70 lengths every other day (progressed from 40 a day); 10 breast strike, 5 sets of 2 lengths front crawl sprint, 5 sets of 4 length front crawl and then swim alternating breast stroke and front crawl. Then every other day I run 1 and half miles for raf fitness prep. Alternating days between press ups and core workout too. Starting to really see improvements
Houdini Logic Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 After 10+ years of expensive gym memberships, lack of attendance and lack of motivation I tried something different this year.I decided to join a boxing club and I'm having personal training once a week. It doesn't cost much more per month than a decent gym membership and the main difference is it takes a lot less time, it's more effective and it's fun - I actually look forward to it.I spend an hour on a Saturday having my PT and other than that I do 15 minutes twice in the week (one night skipping and abs, one night skipping and arms). So much more convenient - I'd recommend it to anyone.
kingcarr21 Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 im finishing work in 10 mins and going home, getting changed and going on a 5 mile run (well more like a jog/walk as im 17 stone) been in an office job for over a year now and my weight has ballooned. Really need to start working out
Sir Fynwy Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 The running coach we run with on Tuesdays and Thursdays is 82 years old, he can still run 6m30s miles (he missed out on the age related world record because he hasn't been fit at the championships) makes you try harder when a bloke that old is running faster than you.

JIMMYWILLIS Posted 16 September 2014 Author Posted 16 September 2014 Yeah I'm also desk bound so put a bit if weight on. Good luck all, keep posting

kingcarr21 Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 I'm 17 stone as well, just come back from an AI holiday where I was actually embarrassed to walk from my sun lounger to the bar because of all my wobbly bits! Decided to try and cut the booze out till Christmas and get the push bike out again. Looking to lose 3 stone before next spring/summer nice1. i started running last week. My first run i only got to the end of my street and my legs were burning. never been this unfit in my life. A week later and i can already feel the benefits of regular running. Im only doing about 2.5 miles at the moment 5 times a week but in the space of a week i can already run much further without stopping before my legs are burning. My diet coming along great aswel. I have my 3 meals a day and the only snack im eating is fruit. Weighed myself after a week and im 2lbs lighter. Going to start increasing my workout now to include more incline when im running. just need to keep it up. If you make a good go of it and start noticing changes for the better then that can spur you on to continue. Especially if people comment on whether you have lost weight. Use that as motivation and im sure you can do it. Good luck.
Sir Fynwy Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 Light week for me this week, tapering for the Robin Hood Half Marathon on Sunday so I'm just running 4-5 miles slow a day and won't run at all on Friday and Saturday.
JIMMYWILLIS Posted 13 October 2014 Author Posted 13 October 2014 After starting thread I did f all! So last week cut out the booze and did 2 x 5k runs. Just seen this which I may try out too http://therunningbug.co.uk/training/plans-and-tips/b/weblog/archive/2014/09/19/30-day-fat-burn-challenge.aspx?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Twitter%20Post&utm_campaign=ad

JIMMYWILLIS Posted 13 October 2014 Author Posted 13 October 2014 Work mostly in London so not really yeah we get kids out and I play 5 a side so not a total waster. Just want to get fitter
zak_lcfc Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 It's getting into the routine for me, I have 3-4 weeks where I do exercise at least every other day then have a brief spell of only eating well and fall out of the exercise plan. Boxing seems a great idea, I'm no good but i've worked on a bag before and it really is knackering plus it helps with stress and whatnot, might see if there are any cheap boxing gyms around that I could go 3-4 times a week!
LutterworthLCFC Posted 15 October 2014 Posted 15 October 2014 Started off being almost 19stone due to drink and learning to drive! Went to lutterworth gym for 2years, went gym 3/4 times a week, went spinning classes twice maybe 3 time a week (sometimes 2 classes in a row), cycle to work during the summer and just ride my bike most evenings, managed to cycle 3000miles in past 18months! Managed to lose 3stone, feel so much better for it!
David Guiza Posted 15 October 2014 Posted 15 October 2014 Got the marathon coming up in under 2 weeks and I feel as though I may have shin splints. Wonderful!
Ric Flair Posted 16 October 2014 Posted 16 October 2014 My lack of exercise has been criminal this past year and now that I no longer bike to work 3-4 times a week in London I knew I needed to do something about it. My mate his own fitness studio and i've recently signed up to do his Primal Conditioning which is pretty brutal but everything is geared around changing your eating habits and the way you exercise. I'm enjoying it so far and staying determined and hopefully after the course has finished i'll still maintain a good level of exercise and diet each week.
