Questions from a Man U forum.

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?

I believe he can do the job for United but only if he sticks with a base formation of 4-4-2 diamond. His 3-5-2 formation clearly wasnt working and looks like he has learnt that now. Ultimately he will bring success back to the club.

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?

Never really loved them or hated them.

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?

I think Man U will finish 4th. Just cant see Liverpool keeping up with the pace having a Champ League campaign and more importantly losing Suarez.
Leicester will have a steady season. I think we will finish 13th

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?

They will certainly help. But a collective team effort and better quality of player will make us finish above QPR and Burnley. Weve carried our form from last year into this season and transfer dealings we definately did better than Burnley and QPR imo.

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?

Yes. Ulloa was a gamble in the fans eyes but clearly the scouting team and Pearson did there homework and recognised where we were lacking up front. He has already paid back his transfer fee. Just a shame Upson is injured cause he was a good bit of business. Albrighton aswel was a good move. Cambiasso was the big signing for me. What a statement of intent that put out.

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?

Lingaard was awful when he played for us but has looked better whenever ive seen him play. Maybe worth another chance. Keane played ok for us but was poor at Derby. So would steer more towards Lingaard.

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?

Hes a decent striker who i believe can make the step up in the Prem. Whether he gets the chance is another story. Quite simply Vardy has electric pace and came on leaps and bounds last season. I believe he will be one of our star players this season. Nugent is an unsung hero. Not getting many chances atm but he works his socks off for the team which ultimately gives Ulloa and Vardy the space. So Wood is going to have to take his chances when injuries/suspensions come into play.

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?

To be honest i cant see us challenge top 5. The gap is just too large. But hey, who knows. Newcastle managed it few seasons ago so i guess anything is possible. The owners have been nothing short of brilliant. They have put in alot of money and dedication and now getting the rewards. It will be interesting to see what happens if were in the relegation zone. They stuck with Pearson after the 12/13 season when alot of fans (me included) wanted Pearson out. Now i think alot of fans would want to stick with Pearson even if we do get relegated. So be a big test to see if the Owners would bite the bullet and get rid in the hope of survival or stick with him through thick and thin. So far though i dont think anybody can have any complaints about the owners.

Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?

Schmeichel

De Laet   Morgan   Moore   Konchesky

Mahrez   Drinkwater   Cambiasso   Schluup

Nugent

          Ulloa

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?

Now i know Man U are a great side regardless of the poor start. But at home i truly believe we can beat anyone in the prem. Our team fights to the death so Man U will need to up there game cause even though you won 4-0 to QPR it was a walk in the park for you. If you underestimate us we will punish you. If we play to our best theres no reason we cant take at least a point. Im confident we will sneak a 2-1 win.

the good thing is though if we do lose then its to be expected against the strike force you possess so i wont be too disappointed. Aslong as we put up a good fight and make you work for the 3 points i can accept that. Pundits are finally starting to take notice of us and i would love nothing more than to put Man U to the sword.

Good luck for the season and i hope its a good game on sunday

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think Van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?

I think with any appointment you have to give the manager time, Van Gaal has a philosophy that has worked at some of the biggest clubs in the world and clearly he is someone who is not overawed by the huge pressures that come with managing Man United. Following in the footsteps of arguably the greatest ever football manager was never going to be easy, and it’s something which David Moyes struggled with all last season. The fear facture Fergie built up over the decades fizzled out in a matter of months; Moyes seemed to give too much respect to the opposition and this is something that I can’t see Van Gall doing, but this might be his undoing, especially away from home. MK Dons for example. I can see Old Trafford becoming an absolute fortress again though. They’ll be teething problems with Van Gaal, but I do think he’ll get you back into the top 4 this season. Next season you’ll be challengers again.

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?

As a 31 year old my footballing life has been dominated by Man U winning titles and trophies. Growing up I’m happy to admit I couldn’t stand you but success breeds contempt. I remember as a lad Paul Ince scoring against us, probably around 95, to wrap up a 4-0 win at Filbert Street. His celebration was one of pure arrogance. Just stood still right infront of the Leicester fans with his arms in the air. That celebration more than anything summed up what I thought about Man U, classless, arrogant wankers. But if I’m honest, now I have the upmost respect for what Ferguson achieved, As fans (proper fans, not the ones from all over England who base their opinions on Sky TV and the Sun) I’ve always found you knowledgeable and respectful, I do hope you continue your long traditional youth policy. Please don’t turn into a City or Chelsea. James Wilson shouldn’t have his route blocked to the first team, unless you want to sell him to your feeder club. He’ll fit in here nicely.

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?

Man U will be in a 3 horse race with Liverpool and Arsenal for 3rd and 4th. Will be tight to call but I think without the ‘distraction’ of The Champions League you can pip one of them to the top 4.

Leicester, we’ve settled in to prem life quite nicely so far, but there’s a long way to go. I’ve been to every game so far and we’ve more than held our own against some very decent teams. I’d say we’ve got a good chance in finishing above at least West Brom, Burnley and QPR. I’d take 17th in a heartbeat, but I think we can finish as high as 13th.

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?

Possibly, Ulloa is grabbing the headlines at the moment, but it’s a squad game. I think the main difference between the 3 promoted sides is our strength in depth. If you go beyond the Burnley starting XI you’re scratching around to find the relevant quality and QPR will never learn. It really is a graveyard of bang average ex prem players. Barton, Dunne, Zamora, Ferdinand, Green, and if in doubt just buy Nico Kranjcar.

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?

Yes, very. We have 2 players for every position and no evident weak links. Or at least from what I have seen so far. I’m excited about seeing Cambiasso hopefully start on Sunday; he looked a class above against Stoke. He was 5 seconds ahead of everyone on the pitch. Ulloa is what we have been crying out for upfront and in terms of different striking options we now have the set. Tom Lawrence is an interesting one and I’m surprised we managed to get him on a permanent.

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?

Currently at United – James Wilson

Playing Elsewhere – Paul Pogba (why did you let him go?!?)

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?

Chris Wood is a decent striker, and is a very good finisher. He’s still only a young lad and a lot of people forget this. Only 22 I believe. He was unfortunate last season with injuries, and that coupled with the form of Vardy and Nugent meant he couldn’t get a sustained run in the team. He’s a good option to have, but realistically he is our 4th choice striker at the moment. Still he is already off the mark with a goal against Everton so that can only be good for his confidence. I do like him and think he has a lot of the attributes needed to be a success at this level.

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?

Don’t believe everything you read, the top 5 comment was grossly misquoted. However you are right in saying our owners are ambitious. They have spent lots of money. Firstly on well documented transfers during the ill-fated Sven experiment, but after the circus left town they quickly learnt their lesson and began putting all the infrastructure in place to make us an established Premier League club. Our academy is category 1, our training facilities are top quality and most importantly they have left Nigel to run the club on the pitch. They are (or at least appear to be) the ideal owners. When you look at what is happening at Leeds, Fulham & Cardiff to name just a few, it’s easy to see how lucky we have been.

Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?

I think Nigel’s team selection and formation choice in this particular game will be very interesting. The back 4 picks itself. Hopefully Schmeichel will be fit but Ben Hamer and his beard proved reliable last week. It’s how we play the 6 in front which will go a long way to show Leicester’s mentality, especially at home, this season.

I’d like to see a midfield 3 of Hammond (James when fit) sitting behind Drinkwater and Cambiasso. Ulloa upfront with Mahrez (right) and Vardy (left) cutting in and allowing the full backs to bomb on. The attacking potential of that team is amazing (at least for a Leicester fan)

However if Pearson is pragmatic in his approach it’ll be 4-4-1-1.Schlupp on the left to help out Konchesky, with two of Hammond, Drinkwater and Cambiasso in midfield. Nugent will play as a deep lying striker, probably sitting on Blind and not letting him play.

Both have their merits but I’d love to see a 4-3-3 and take the game to you, rather than tailor our approach to stop you. It just depends on how brave we are. One things for sure, whatever formation we do play we won’t be sitting off you like QPR. We’ll be running ourselves into the ground and giving you no time and space.

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?

Heart – 2-1

Head – 1-3

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?

Time will tell, comes with a good reputation and is used to handling high profile players at the top level

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?

Have represented the philosophy of home grown talent making it to the top in the mid to late 90's, club seems to have been on a slow decline since the riches of Chelsea and Manchester City have emerged.

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?

Early signs are positive, United will be sniffing around the top four, if defensive improvements arrive then it could be a late assault on the title but possibly too early for this side. For Leicester, the start we have made is encouraging but not enough to get carried away yet of certain survival, meet that target and whatever else follows is a bonus.

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?

I think the teams contribution as a whole on the goalscoring front will prove pivotal, Ulloa is one man and one man doesn't equal survival, although his goals are welcome.

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?

Very, we didn't go mad and sign an entire new squad and the additions made seem to fit our blueprint so far.

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?

Pogba, a real gem since moving to Italy.

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?

The form of Nugent and Vardy made opportunities for Wood hard to come by last season, throw Ulloa into the mix and he will find it even more difficult, the guy has talent for sure but may benefit from a loan move, show us what we might be missing as it were.

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?

Very happy with the attitude of the owners, the key decision of listening to the supporters for Nigel Pearsons return after the failures of Sven and Sousa took guts given that the two managers were appointed by the owners. Top five is a big ask and will require more than just money to achieve it, we have a stable foundation to push forward as a club so anythings possible. Survival this season is probably everyones maximum expectation as it stands.

Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?

Schmeichel, De Laet, Morgan, Moore, Konchesky, Mahrez, King, Cambiasso, Schlupp, Ulloa, Vardy - Pace in attack and defensive solidarity.

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?

A valiant effort but Falcao to open his account 1-2

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?

To be honest, I think that's down to you. Have you got the patience to watch him finish 3rd a couple of times while you rebuild your broken spine? If so, why not?

As a side issue, Ferguson stitched you up something chronic with the squad he left-holes all over the pitch, but especially CB and CM. Felt for Moyes, because much of his failure was Woodward's. Ferdinand talking out now is ironic, because 90s Fergie would have had him out to pasture 5 years ago.

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?

Fans: the real fans are some of the best around, the vocal majority of plastics are horrendous.

Team: a mix of some of the best people in football (scholes, Beckham, Schmeichel, sheringham) with some of the worst (Keane, Ferdinand, Young). Mostly support the underdog, but some of your football has been sublime over the years.

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?

I think you'll come 3rd. Arsenal have no strikers, Liverpool look bemused, plus you're out of everything else. Chelsea will walk the league and City will walk 2nd.

I'll plump for 11th for us.

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?

No, we're a cut above them anyway. Ulloa's goals will be handy, and I'm delighted with how he's started, but against weaker teams Vardy will be a bigger threat.

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?

Delighted. Ulloa speaks for himself, Cambiasso is a dream come true (he's exactly the player Arsenal need), Albrighton will be a decent experienced sub and Upson will be a coach most of the time. The rest are young, and will be dripped into the team to find their feet. Knowing Nigel, at least one or two will be gems.

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?

Pogba, for obvious reasons. I think we have the next best in Drinkwater.

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?

Great player, strong, intelligent, good feet and a great finisher. He doesn't fit our chasing system so will probably only ever be a sub for us, which is a shame. There are bigger teams who he'd do an excellent job for, but sadly I can't see him making the breakthrough here (at least for a while).

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?

See everyone else-couldn't fault them from the day they sacked Sven. Top drawer.

Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?

Trust Nigel. The team is pretty much unchanged if we keep our usual shape, but I think we might come out a bit differently for you...

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?

I don't think we'll be embarrassed, but if you score early it could throw us, especially after some very good results so far. At home we're very strong, so I'm going to say 1-1, acknowledging that 3-1 either way is completely possible.

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?

With the money he has been backed with -Yes

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?

Can't stand them. The 'humour' of their self deprecating songs? BORING, NOT FUNNY.

Attractive football? No not since the late 60's.

The violence against ordinary supporters back in the 70's - Man Utd fans were notorious for that. (Especially the Cockney Reds)

But mainly because they pull support from all over the country from 'Glory Supporters'

I have been a teacher in Leicester for 30 years. I have ran school teams all that time, I have banned kids turning up in anything but their school kit, Leicester or England kit. I have recently allowed them to wear non-English team kits, after all kids are kids and they all get Barca/Real Madrid or Brazil kits etc for Christmas.

Reason -when I first started running teams I couldn't believe kids turning up in Man U, Liverpool or Arsenal kits ( but mainly Man U). "I've supported them all my life" they would say. "YOURE ONLY 11" would be my reply, "AND YOU ARE FROM LEICESTER YOU GLORY SUPPORTER".

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?

Man U - top 4

City - I hope for 10/11th but 17th will do.

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?

ULLOA is going to be important, but there are many others who will step up, watch out for Morgan and Moore ( great defenders) and Drinkwater, Mahrez and Vardy to name a few.

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?

Yes

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?

Sorry, you are just a feeder club to us, I don't follow you're youth team, I let the coaching staff do that.

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?

He is good, just has a few good players ahead of him.

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?

At the moment the owners seem decent, in it for the long term, respectful of the team's history and ambitious.

To crack the top 7 ( I'm sure you could name the 7 I mean) let alone top 4 is a helluva task though.

I would be happy to be established as top 10 and winning cups, like O'Neill's days.

Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?

I'll leave that to Pearson, he's doing a good job.

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?

Hoping for a win, but would accept a draw.

Prediction 1-1

Sounds like a Leicester version of Kez

I have a question for your forum. Do you think the "fans" that flew a plane over Old Trafford with an anti-Moyes banner are 1) bellends 2) bellends or 3) bellends?

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?

His track record is very good, if he is given the time he will be a success.

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?

Not proud of it but as a kid I "supported" them (that changed after my first Leicester game) under fergie I had a lot of respect for them, now it's indifference. Genuine fans seem decent but it's hard to decipher those from the plastics (needle in a haystack)

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?

I think leicester will have a very descent season, around 11-15th. As for united top 5.

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?

Yes and no. His goals so far have proved very valuable pickin up some good early points against tough opposition. But we are not a one man team, we achieved an incredible feat last season reaching 102 points, in spite of his goals against us.

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?

Generally yes, we strengthened where we needed to with good additions (on paper) i think everybody wanted at least one more defensive recruit though.

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?

Current crop januzaj, generally pogba, both quality players (just wish they were English)

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?

Yes. But he frustrates a lot of people and divides opinion. He has fantastic potential, just needs to learn to use his build and add that to his poaching instincts.

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?

I don't think top 5 is reachable any time soon. I am very happy with the owners though, so far they have been fantastic and long may it continue.

Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?

Schmeichel

De laet

Moore

Morgan

Konchesky

Hammond (James on the hour)

Drinkwater

Cambiasso

Mahrez

Schlupp (vardy later if we are chasing)

Ulloa

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?

I'm quite optimistic at the moment 2-1 to the city

Ask me on Sunday before kick off I'll probably say 3-1 I yourselves though

Q1: After a relatively poor start to the season, do you think van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United?
Yes. whilst they are in transition and a little unbalanced still, a combination of the manager, the quality signings, Particularly Di Maria and Blind, and the fact they have no European football to congest their fixture list, means they will finish much higher this season, and give Van Gaal a good platform to build on.

Q2: How do you feel about Manchester United in general?
In footballing terms you have to admire them, the style of play over the last 30 years or so has been up there with any of the best sides, hate the plastic fans but feel a bit sorry for the real fans who get tarred with that brush.

Q3: How do you expect both Manchester United and Leicester City to do in the league this season?
Think United have a real chance to finish 3rd, possibly even 2nd but that Chelsea will be too strong for everyone this season, we have proved how difficult we are to beat, and have enough quality to stay up comfortably, 9th to 12th spot would be great and give us something to build on.

Q4: You’ve had a good start to the season. Do you believe that Ulloa’s goals will be the difference between you and the other promoted sides?
He's made a great start and is full of confidence, we do have other options including Vardy's electric pace, and we have steel at the back and some really talented midfielders (thanks for them lol)

Q5: Are you happy with your club’s dealings in the transfer window this summer?
Yes. not see Upson yet but hopefully he can bring experience to some of our younger defenders, even in training sessions lol. Ulloa has started on fire and Cambiasso is absolute quality and has already silenced a few of those doubters on here!!

Q6: Leicester have an interesting relationship with the Manchester United academy, with quite a few of your squad members having spent time in our youth system. If you could have one more current United academy graduate for free - including both those with us now and those playing elsewhere - who would you take and why?
3 recent players who stood out were Pogba, Morrison and William Keane, Keane looked a fantastic prospect(bit of a Berbatov with pace and work rate), but I think he picked up a bad injury playing for England. Of the current crop James Wilson looks a bit special, and I like a lad called Josh Harrop, an 18 year old midfielder with a bit of quality and an eye for goal.

Q7: Chris Wood. Is he any good? He's one of, if not the, first team strikers for his National team and pops up with some crucial goals now and then, but seems to be out of the starting eleven wherever he goes. What's that about?
Started like an express train but injury put him out the team for a while and he's struggled to recapture his form since. Though you need to remember he is young however me he needs to work on his game a bit more, close control could be improved.
I like Wood, he really suffered after his injury and due to our form last season and Vardy in particular he has struggled to get the opportunity to show what he can do. I think a loan to a Championship would have done him good, but wouldn't want to sell him as think he still has a chance.

Q8: You’ve got a very ambitious owner, who says that he wants the club to eventually challenge the top five. Is it something that you think is achievable. and how happy are you with your owners?
As with previous answers, provided funds when necessary, cleared the club debts, built solid foundations, invested in the academy set up and training facilities, what's not to like???
Q9: Which XI would you like to see your team field against us?
Kasper
De latte Moore Morgan Konch
Mahrez Cambiasso Drinkwater Schlupp
Ulloa Nugent

Q10: Finally, your predictions for the match?
1-2 :(

eff me, thanks for the responses all. Great reading through all of them. Tried to include as much as I could on the thread but couldn't fit everyone on (did link back to here though): http://www.redcafe.net/threads/ask-the-opposition-2014-15-leicester-city-premier-league-away.396768/

Good luck tomorrow/this season. You're a team I'll definitely be keeping an eye on.

I have a question for your forum. Do you think the "fans" that flew a plane over Old Trafford with an anti-Moyes banner are 1) bellends 2) bellends or 3) bellends?

Bellends for sure. You can see the discussion here. Most were very much against it, and those who were actually in favour I've not got much time for.

I don't think the Man U forum like Leicester anymore.

All the players that scored against Man U today cost 9m in total.

Redcafe is full of plastic dickheads who think that because we are Man Utd we have the right to win every game we play. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the opinions there barring a handful of posters.
