Was Today Our Greatest League Win Ever

Depends on what you mean by greatest, in terms of importance? No, in the grand scheme of things it is just another 3 points.

In terms of performance? As good as the end result was we still conceded 3 goals and didn't dominate Man Utd. The Sunderland game or Derby were more complete in terms of performance.

In terms of upset? No, beating a great united side at old Trafford was a greater achievement, although I think the biggest upset was beating Spurs in 1994 Brian Little's team was shit, and we destroyed Spurs that day, or beating Arsenal same season despite all the turmoil at the time.

In terms sure enjoyment to watch? Yeah probably, but lets not do a Watford and fixate on one amazing result. Time to move on and focus on the next game. When we finish above united this season we will realise just how average this result really was...

when heskey and collymore linked up to beat sunderland was awesome at filbo...i know its only sunderland...but this is gotta be the best ive seen when you take into account its manure.

Especially when you think about their line up...we will never witness an atmosphere like that in a league game....EVER!!!

I was there that day and we went utterly barmy.

I think it's SO big today because it's Man Utd. Bollox to all that stuff about they ain't what they were. It's still a win against one of the world's biggest clubs, they have spent silly money and they have in charge, one of the games top names.

Amazing win today and especially how the scoring went.

I love the fact that on my NewsNow feed there are links to papers all over the world, from the South China Post to The National (Dubai) to The Bleacher Report (USA): of course, it's all about how Man U lost to City (not how we beat them) but who gives a furk. Steady on lads. I watched the game on cable here in Sydney and was really chuffed to see City take it to Man U. However this result does not really compare with the results City used to get in the 60,s. 

 As a lad I did not miss a home game 1961 thru to 1963 when City was a powerhouse in the first division and regularly beat Liverpool, Chelse,ManU,Man City and all. I particularly remember when City beat Man U 4-3 in I think 1963. That was the days of Denis Law, George Best and Bobby Charlton.

 It would be great  to see City scale the same heights as those teams of the 60,s ,somehow I cannot see it happening. But there again, Matt Gillies was a special manager ,it looks as if Nigel Pearson has a lot of quality.

That was number 1 for me.... For the comeback, the opposition, cambiasso's debut... Obviously we won't get credit for it, it will be all about how poor Man U were and the referee's decisions, but we all know that was an awesome performance.... Even outshines the Wembley play offs for me. Although they obviously had more significance! Still can't believe what I witnessed.

I would've loved to have been around in the 60's to witness this! Then again, I'm not sure the games were being streamed on HD channels back then...

I was at the match at Anfield in Jan 1981 when we beat Liverpool 2-1, having beaten them 2-0 at home earlier in the season.

 

To me that remains our best league win in my supporting lifetime. Liverpool were League Champions at the time, won the European Cup that season and hadn't lost at home for over 3 years in any competition. I think their unbeaten home run was over 90 games when we ended it. Trouble is, we went down that season.

 

What about the 3-0 win over Man Utd in Nov 1985? Utd won their opening 11 games of that season but we then hammered them in the 12th match. A bit of a forgotten result it seems to me, but until yesterday it was the last time we beat Man U at home in the league.

As much as I am over the moon with Sunday's result, I wouldn't put that performance in my top-five. I attended my first match in september 1949 and I have been totally a City fan for 65 years.

Therefore when fans ask if this was the greatest victory ever, you must have regard for the history over the years but it is difficult to appreciate performances you haven"t seen because you weren't born then which is why I enjoyed reading the post from Aussie Flash.

Leicester 2 Newcaste 0 are first season in the Prem under MON, this is when Newcastle where playing in the Champs League and finishing runners up to United season after season. It was are first game against a top team that season and everyone expected us to get hammered, Claridge scored in the first half and Heskey in the second, I always remember is because Kasey Keller won MOTM and showed the best goalkeeping perormance ive ever seen to this day he was out of this world

Yes this was a great performance from us Keller made an amazing save from a Les Ferdinand header.

Also Newcastle had thrashed Man utd 5-0 the week before.
