65RosesFox Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 I've tried to hold my tongue all evening but....really, how do you pronounce these words? The only thing I can think of is that you're that Scotsman off the 'good with food' advert. Well I'm not from Leicester so I don't have that accent. I can understand how a person from Leicester would say it but it seems like some from Leicester don't understand that my accent (which is actually quite bland in my opinion) isn't like theirs. On here, I really don't know how to tell you how I say those words other than just keep listing other words that rhyme which won't explain at all . For me, the 'u' sound in 'bud' is like the 'u' sound in the word 'utter'. It's short. I'm lost. That is correct, the 'u' in 'bud' is short but when I say 'Wood' I say it 'Wud' There's no other way is there....

YEah but read the last sentence of my post. I don't say bud like 'wud'. We say the 'u' sound differently in the word 'bud'.

StanSP Posted 25 September 2014 Posted 25 September 2014 how do you pronounce wood if it's not wud? wooooo-ed? like the art of wooing a lady? wooing a lady who says that The problem isn't with the word 'Wood' . It's the pronunciation of 'bud' which is where the difference is. We all say 'Wood' the same!!!
