Right Vs Left imbalance

During Sky's analysis they showed a graphic which highlighted we've got highest percentage of right flank attacks in the whole PL

It went something like:

Right 50%

Centre 30%

Left 20%

A huge reason for this is the strength in RDL getting forward Vs the comparative weak attacking threat of Konchesky.

Not to mention allowing Lloyd Dyer to leave without being replaced.

Surely it's time give Schlupp a go at LB against suitable opponents. Opponents that to my mind would have included Palace, Burnley, Newcastle, but possibly not the likes of Arsenal, Utd & Swansea

Pearson seems happy to switch the midfield & forward lines every single game, but defence has been ever present despite not keeping a single clean sheet except when Hamer appeared in goal Vs Stoke.

So come on, let's get a bit of pace from deep on the left rather than someone who floats aimless lofted balls into the box as soon as he's over the halfway line.

It could also help peg back opposition right wingers by giving them something else to think about, blunting their attacks, slightly.

Not that Konchesky has let us down defensively, in fact he's performed much better than last season would indicate, but it's a team game & we've been predictable as hell in all 4 of the 4 games since Utd imploded.

But this right Vs left imbalance is huge & makes us very predictable & easy to defend against

You make some excellent points which link into my own mention of the need for proper partnerships within a team. There was no partnership on the left against Swansea.

Have we conceded the most down the right flank too? Rdl and Mahrez were both poor yesterday, particularly defensively.

This exactly backs up what I've put in previous posts.

We are all about playing down the right side to our strengths of RDL so why do people want to drop him?

People want to see change in the team because of recent form and because we signed Simpson and have not seen much of him so far this season feel he is the now the answer. RDL has been exposed each week and has had no support from whoever is playing in front of him. He did have a bad game against Palace but apart from that I think he has done a decent job, yesterday's goal was not his fault, Moore was keeping everyone on side and some have said he should of tracked back and followed his man, if that's the case what about Morgan who was standing next to RDL, wasn't Bony his man?

Konch is the weak link our defence, Schlupp played their last season on merit and would balance the team out with attack from LB position

Those two are not a natural partnership anyway. RDL is a willing attacker giving the licence but his final ball is often unimaginative or disappointing and, once he's out of position, the gap behind is enormous.

I would wonder if there are other teams who are as biased, but down the left side? I can't think there are many teams who attack roughly equally down down both sides.

Completely agree.. I'd play Schlupp at left back. Good post.

I'd imagine that's cos we had Schlupp left wing for our last two games and he touched the ball about 4 times overall.

and because Mahrez is our best player we are obviously going to use him more often. as trav said I bet nobody attacks at 33% left 33% right 33% middle because why would you. mahrez being on the right is a strength of ours so we use it more often. maybe even things like opponents being weaker down their lefts mean we aim to attack more down our right, too? what a moot point you're making.

Schlupp isn't a winger, he's not a forward either.

Has showed enough in the past to indicate he could be a useful LB/LWB although Dyer was very disciplined at tracking back, unlike Mahrez/Knockaert/Vardy

What about Ben Chilwell? I haven't seem him play so purely asking the question, seems to be getting lots of praise on the international scene.

How far away from the first team is he?

Could he make the break through this season?

I was at the Crystal Palace game a few years ago when Nigel shocked us and included young Liam Moore at full back. could he do the same again with this lad?

All thoughts welcome,

Be interesting to know the same statistics for number of goals conceded, I'd guess a lot were down our right hand side...

Good point. If, as you'd expect, we're stronger defensively on the left then I won't be too unhappy that we lack a forward threat down that side.

I would like to know about this too. 18 is young but is he's good enough he should be pushing for the first team.
