Board Games (Not Scrabble or Snakes and Ladders)

Not easy to get hold off (or cheap) but I'd highly recommend Hogs Of War to everyone. Was originally a PS2 game but got kick-started a while back into a board game. Great fun, and can be a one player if needed.

Also old game but Bootleggers is good fun

While I agree, I also don’t like it when people try to dismiss the old games like monopoly or Cluedo which are still a perfectly nice time with family. To me the appeal is just the social time, in a time when everyone is addicted to their phones, friends or family sitting round a table together, not checking their phones for 2-3 hours and just laughing and enjoying a game together is what life is all about.

It doesn’t matter to me if people are playing the old familiar games like monopoly or rummy or enjoying something new. I think board and card games (and tabletop RPGs for us real nerds) feel even more refreshing nowadays because they’re so face-to-face social in a way the modern digitalised world isn’t. My favourite games tend to be ones with lots of table talk like negotiation, diplomacy, bluffing or social deduction games for that reason.

I definitely agree with this. As a family we loved playing Monopoly, simple times together,  and without wishing to put any kind of 'downer' on the thread it's another one on a long list of things I can't bear to do since I lost my son. He and I would often join forces in a takeover of Monopoly, much to the chagrin of the other players lol It's a great game

I'm a highly ranked Yahtzee player.

What's the highest score you ever got on a single game?      I forget the exact number, but I got between 335 and 340 a couple of times.

I just checked my scoresheets.   And I confess to having over-egged my pudding.    My best score was "only"335.     So I salute your 341, Sir Space Monkey!   :)

I honestly don't know what my best score is. My memory is sh*t!. You said 340, so I went with 341! ;)

My sister, my niece and I play all the time and have for years. We put in a dollar each a game and it's really just something to keep my niece entertained for a bit. She's got some mental health issues, along with some physical ones and playing Yahtzee makes her focus on something for a bit.

Oh! I do know my lowest ever score! And I challenge anyone to beat it!

96! :D

Neither my niece, nor my sister have been able to come close to that one!

Uhhh. A boardgame thread.

I am a massive nerd. Current favorites are Terraforming Mars, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Orleans, Ark Nova, Too Many Bones, Cthulhu: Death May Die and Zombicide (for simple gameplay and lots of dice chucking).

Mars is a great game! Been playing Nemesis, Inis and Game of Thrones recently, also all very good.

Nemesis one of my absolute favourites. Always comes with so many “remember that time when…” moments you and your friends still retell years later

Been really enjoying Magical Athlete recently with my nieces and nephews. It’s a very silly and funny dice rolling family game which is great for young kids and elderly parents who aren’t into board gaming (and still great fun as an adult too).

I've heard lots of good things about this one, and Hot Streak.
